Could belief in an afterlife, etc. lead to psychosis?

No. During psychosis people don't "believe", they "perceive" an alternate reality that is generally anxiety or fear inducing.

Not fertile ground for any belief in an afterlife.
Delusions -- false beliefs -- are common in psychosis.
They believe the alternate reality they perceive, as well as harbor false beliefs, like paranoia.
