Just been announced that the covid virus have mutated in minks here in Denmark and have been transferred back to humans again. Tests show that this new mutated virus have a reduced effect on the immunity against the virus. So now they have announced that all minks in Denmark are to be killed.

That is not good news :(

Its even worse, because it can apparently screw up a potential vaccine to the current one.
That's totally ridiculous and disgusting.

To be fair, I assume these are mainly minks that are being raised to be killed for their fur, right? So we would have killed them regardless, for purely selfish fashion reasons. But it is still sad.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

Damm. Without minks they are gonna have a lot more rats. However there will be a price reduction on new mink coats.

Yeah they would be killed regardless, a few of them are for breeding.

It's not surprising to me. Some members of the weasel family have strong zoonotic transmissions with humans (as do some other animals like pigs and even whales). Ferret owners can give influenza to their ferrets and visa versa.
It's a shame that so many mink will need to be culled for this, but I hope it severely damages the mink trade and reviving it makes backers think twice.

Can we cull those not wearing masks for similar reasons? Reintroduced g the virus back into a population/enabling it's spread.?

The industry is pretty much dead now in Denmark, at least for the next couple of years, and might never recover.

I feel bad for displaced workers but I can't say I'm sorry to see the industry go. It's been characterized by inhumane treatment for a luxury product for a long time now. Hopefully we can use this to prop up other, less ethically challenged clothing industry.

I don't disagree with it as such, but this is obviously a huge market, and if that is the case, someone somewhere want to exploit that, so if its not done in Denmark. Someone else will just take over that market share, so overall I don't think it makes a huge difference in regards to minks.

That's certainly possible. A small optimist in me thinks maybe a major outbreak might make people think twice, especially for a non-food item. But the realist knows it hasn't changed pig farming at all.
Still, I can't say I'm sorry this industry will be gone, even if someone else takes it up later.
