"Hospitalizations are still rising. And it's a real problem. Health care providers are overstretched, beds are full," Walke said, providing the "very tough advice" for Americans to stay at home during the holiday season. Dr. Robert Redfield, the CDC's director, said the focus now is just on trying to prevent the health care system from becoming completely overwhelmed."

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Its difficult to appeal to human nature.

Human nature , a force that people need to realize isn't always controllable by virtue, as we are hardwired as social primates. Best venue I think, would be to appeal in hope that compliance is just seen as doing your part in hopefully, ending this misery.

Many still maintain that blood is thicker than water, and detest interference with their own kin.

The true quote is "the Blood of the Covenant, is thicker then the Water of the Womb."

ie: Community before Family.

Pence has also severely downplayed the risks of smoking. He should never be considered a valid source of info for health related stuff given his established record if parting ways with well established health sciences (he should he considered lower than a dunce when the subject is health). At keast here stay at home orders are just around the corner. Maybe a little late and running ICU beds pretty low before hand, but something is at least being done.

I know of several who go by family before community.

Its hard to tell who's exactly right as that is a true grey area more often than not, but still, I can see both sides of the coin here.

Go shopping early when most people are still asleep, not on pay days when everyone will be out. Shop for a month at a time if you can. Continue to use safety protocol. Social distancing, no shaking hands, no hugging, no kissing, wear a mask, was your hands often, change your clothes after you go out, bath in hot water.

Don't forget to plan social get-togethers for yourself and the family, but by safe means such as Zoom!

Get outside when you can when there is light. Try and let as much sunlight into the home as possible while you're inside, find exercises that you are able to do either nearby outside or in your home.

Here is a good article on dealing with Pandemic Fatigue:

We have been cultivating a culture of selfishness for over a century in this country (and in many others) through industrialized commercial advertising, and through a capitalist economic system that rewards greed, selfishness, and excessive wealth with even more wealth, and the power to abuse it as one pleases. So it's not surprising that there would be so many among us who can't see the value or virtue in thinking of themselves as being part of an "us". Or in seeing their own well-being as tied to the well-being of their fellow citizens. That is clearly not the reality they've been living in all their lives. Nor is it the message they've been receiving from every possible source, public and private, since the day they were born.

I agree. The evidence being the throw away wasteful society we've become at our own expense that benefits only the 1% that pretty much has stolen it all via their insatiable never ending greed.

Its a sad state of affairs no doubt.
