Crazy coincidences

I used to wonder about these little incidents of thinking of someone out of the blue and then shortly, I run into them. I always noted it, but generally, I have rejected applying any significance to it. It isn't much of a superpower like stopping bullets or invisibility.

I think it means something. No idea what though.

It's terrible that your parents deprived you of things to complain about on the internet as an adult.

I never would have done that to my kids.
I know. I tried to deprive mine too with mixed results. Now the older two hold down jobs and crazy things like that.

I've often wondered about that sense that some people have that they are being followed or watched. I've heard one explanation that the follower or watching is detected, but on a subconscious level and this detection is expressed as a sense rather than as a direct observation.

Our senses do operate continuously while we are awake at least. Like a camera running constantly, but only looking at the monitor periodically. The images between looks are still captured. They can be reviewed later. Maybe our brains just churn through it, but the information coming internally has a different alert status or something.

This happens to me so often. I wonder if it’s frequency bias that makes it seem that way or if it really happens more than - usual? Because what’s “usual?” Here‘s the latest example:

Earlier this morning I was thinking of a friend I’d lost touch with about 20 years ago. He had an extensive vocabulary and had introduced me at the time to a word I didn’t know, let alone know how to pronounce. The word was synecdoche. I don’t know why he popped into my mind, it’s been years since I thought about him and I was thinking about how I still struggle with that word.

Fast-forward a couple hours, I decided to visit the local art museum. One of the art pieces is titled Synecdoche.

How often does this kind of thing happen to you?
If I'm struggling with solving some kind of mystery, puzzle, problem, or phenomenae, I will get all kinds of synchronicities representing the solution that might stretch the meaning of the solution seven ways from Sunday until I finally go *doh* How could I miss something seemingly so obvious?

Perhaps your synchronicities with synecdoche is a signal from your unconscious mind to look for a greater whole or greater meaning behind something that needs your attention, especially when you are prompted by the memory of the person who taught you the meaning of synecdoche.

I've wondered if all feelings of foreboding are mostly emotion based on a fear of the unknown or if we actually detect something, but the information is processed differently.

Evolving in a savannah with predators stalking through the grass, maybe that pressure selected for abilities to let us detect the predators and react quickly without thinking about it. Much like a reflex. Now in a different context, the ability still exists and processing is challenged or altered due to the context.

I believe that's how intuition works. our mind's cobble together seemingly meaningless details and come up with something relevant:

Walking down the street, I hear someone say "Oops!!!" followed by what sounds like a really sour cord on a piano in the distance.

My conscious mind doesn't think anything of it.

I also detect a slight swoshing sound.

My conscious mind doesn't pay any attention.

My conscious mind only barely notices a strange piano-shaped shadow at my feet . . .

. . . and that it seems to be getting bigger really quickly

. . . and I wonder what that person across the street is screaming about . . .

!!!Splat!!!

On the other hand if my intuition is working okay that day I might jump out of the way before I even know why I was doing it.

Edit: @Dan From Smithville cool, this works as a response to the post you posted while I was posting this too. :p

That seems to be exactly the sort of description I'm thinking about.

We are bombarded with information and we have senses that detect information. These are not shut off when we are focused on something. With a large brain with some considerable processing power, I don't think the information is just completely discarded or left to degrade unprocessed.

Welp, that was a new reference for me...lol
Had to google it.
I actually came up with that years before the comic ever came into existence.

I didn't even know the comic existed until just now when I googled it, because you got me curious.

Bongloadia was a tiny Island Kingdom that I came up with on the forum that I was a member of before I joined RF.

I wonder if that's where they got the name. :p

That happens to me rather frequently and has since I was a child. I don't know what it means. Perhaps I subconsciously make note of facts that get connected in my brain somehow and are noticed when they rise to the surface in a sense. No idea. I find it interesting. I think about someone I haven't seen in a long time and then I see them or they call. Things like that. Nothing useful like stock tips or lottery numbers. Just a curiosity.
That‘s what it is to me too, a curiosity. I think sometimes I’m hyper-aware of things too.

I was curious to see if I could find the post from when this happened, since it was quite a while ago.

Here it is:

That‘s very cool. :)
