Was with a die-hard Cubs fan last night who is convinced they will not win WS this year. Asked him 3 months ago, 3 weeks ago and yesterday and still sees no reason to think they will. He made the salient point that winning in April and May doesn't mean you are good enough to win in September and October.
Obviously, not winning one for last 100 years has affected his outlook.
They have to learn to finish: last year, post-season, they eliminated the Pirates (a better overall record) and the Cards (best overall record...really, Cubs were in third place in the division and a better record than any of the remaining teams in baseball), and then lost to the Mets, who lost to the Royals. The bats shut down. But then, so did the Pirates', Cards' and finally, the Mets'. We'll see.
