Cutting Joshua Trees

Debatable with your aversion to green energy near you because it vaguely smells of capitalism and is an "eyesore".
How is trashing a nature reserve "Green energy"?????

I'm minded of the song Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone
They paved paradise, put up a parking lot
(Ooh, bop-bop-bop-bop, ooh, bop-bop-bop-bop)

Yay! Let's destroy the natural environment for green energy! Totally consistent and rational!

It's totally deranged
Speculation that it is purely financially motivated.
It's a private company that is in business to turn a profit, they have probably realised their oil won't last forever so want to diversify

It is abusing the goodwill of the naive and feeble minded, that is their strategy

They take us for fools
Yes, the Earth is Many, and humans few. That takes precedence.
And the Yorkshire countryside isn't a part of Earth????

Is that what I suggested? Or did I suggest a balanced approach? Recognizing that there has to be give and take from both sides. Both the energy sector, and communities.

Smart move.

You're pointing a lot of negativity without basis.

And the Yorkshire countryside isn't a part of Earth????
You're missing my point.

So what do you think of cutting down thousands of Joshua trees for a solar farm?

One must balance the costs of solar (financial, tree loss)
vs the benefits (burning less fossil fuel). I'm OK with doing
it outside of Joshua Tree National Park.
Could there be more analysis than is shown in the article?
It would be useful to know more.

Tidal is still in the early stages and may kill marine life or alter water currenta. Same with geothermal, we don't know enough about it yet. With afaik only one experimental plant running in Iceland. Geothermal needs geologically active areas in order to be efficient.

These sorts of tech won't be deployed evenly in all areas.

Wind turbines are not a big deal imo. I don't mind seeing wind farms. They can even be built above tree lines I bet.
I do have concerns about wind turbines causing deaths of birds, though. Plus, I have read that disposable or dealing with them after their lifespan is becoming a huge problem.

Painting a turbine blade black helps prevent a good portion of the collisions potentially.

"The Oregon State researchers, working with federal, industry and nonprofit partners, and funded in part by the Oregon Legislature, are building on recent research in Norway that found a nearly 72% decline in bird collisions with turbine blades when one blade was painted black."

That’s good to hear!

I thought so too! It's a step in the right direction!
I’m all for alternative energy sources as long as the benefits outweigh the negative consequences or impact on the natural environment, which from my perspective includes animal and human lives. Plus, I don’t like the idea of projects being pushed through by business companies simply for profit, taking advantage of the green movement to do so. Especially with government funding or collusion, without regard to whether the consequences end up being detrimental in the long run.

As a former resident of the Mojave Desert, I stand firmly against removing the trees. When I lived there, damaging a Joshua tree was punishable by law. What happened?

If you want a solar farms, install them over car parks/parking lots, not over the natural landscape. You're protecting cars and accomplishing what you set out to initially.

It's just another example of a corporation wanting to turn a profit at the expense of the earth.
So is burning fossil fuels.
The issue should be which power generation
methods are best, considering cost, environmental
effects, reliability, & suitability to demand.
Just cursing business interests is specious.

No, you were just getting too emotional
Sorry Doctor Spock I forgot we were Vulcans!

I think being passionate about the countryside is rational and good

I thought you cared for nature?????

Some creeps want to destroy the countryside near where I live for profit

Any decent and reasonable person would be angered by that, especially nature lovers
Once again your attempting mind reading. and
Well, you would say that wouldn't you :D

You are supporting something that is both wicked and absurd

Whatever.

Your attempt at bringing me back into the conversation I said I was done with you over, has been duly noted.

Glad you wanted the last word.
