Dairy Farm Abuse

I'm sick.... I couldn't watch it was too horrifying.

But the thing is, why should I start caring now? The food industry treats animals like machines. It gives no thought to their pain and suffering. I am sure the stuff in this video is nothing compared to the collective atrocity the food industry perpetrates against animals. I hate it. Yet I am a hypocrite for doing nothing about it. :(

I agree ~ it's disgusting. I won't watch the video. I know what goes on, and if I watch this, I won't sleep tonight.

There are a few things you can do:

1. Some people go vegan.

2. Visit the Human Farming Association

3. Visit Farm Sanctuary

4. You can also look into purchasing locally: Local Harvest / Farmers Markets / Family Farms / CSA / Organic Food

I think the only way conditions will change for these poor animals is if we hit factory farming in the wallet. I'm sure others on this forum will have additional suggestions.

I pray for all beings every night, including these sweet, helpless creatures. :(

I think that cows are amongst the most sweet/beautiful natured animals. It's really sad what people do to animals (human and non-human included).

Thanks. I do try and do a few things. For instance, I buy locally as much as I can. For reasons both humane and environmental, I should just become a vegetarian or reasonable vegan. It's hard though. I would need help. And I don't want to get duped into anything crazy.

In addition to being sad, it's also frightening to see what people can do to an animal without blinking, without even thinking twice about it. I honestly believe there is something seriously wrong with a person who can treat an animal this way.

It's all about how we percieve things and our conditioning/beliefs. People have treated entire races of people the same way. We're a violent species.
However, I have heard of and also do know people who have worked in the meat industry. Some actually end up with PTSD from seeing what the animals have to go through when they are killed.

That's great!

Even if you gave up eating half of the animal products you consume, you'd be helping. :) Going vegan can be tough, so I'd recommend perhaps gradually reducing your intake of certain things, maybe graduating to vegetarian someday. You can go straight to vegan, but it's a big change.

I tell ya, I'd be thrilled to see millions of omnivores stand up and demand the humane treatment of farm animals. That to me is a huge step in the right direction.

And I don't want to get duped into anything crazy.

Vegetarians tend to be cool in general. Vegans, in my experience, can go either way. I've met some really kind people, and I've also met some nuts. But that's me...I had a bad experience with a few, so my opinion is a bit colored by that.

i can't view it but it does not matter. i can imagine cos i've seen stuff before. those people are not human, they are not even butchers if you ask me. they are robots, vicious murderers and i don't expect them to perceive human in a better way

Well, seeing as I had a wonderful chicken dinner tonight, I might as well stop eating meat now. :) So what does a vegetarian diet consist of? I mean, I don't really like vegetables that much. What should I eat? Or rather, where can I turn for good information about how to live a more vegetarian lifestyle?

(And please tell me it get's easier over time.)

there is a kind ofpeople who live a certain lifestyle when it comes to food. we call them "coke & meat" people. i think it is an habit. any habit could be changed but it does not have to be so dramatic. you can add some vegetables to your dishes. in time you'd like them. cos they taste good. but it is very difficult to get pleasure from their taste if all your dishes were meat

My veg diet includes everything except the animal itself. That leaves veggies, fruits, beans, eggs, cheeses, and pastas/grains.

I suggest looking through some vegetarian cookbooks at your local library. Pick a few recipes that appeal to you and try them out. If you aren't a fan of veggies (yet! ;) ), try pasta and soup recipes. Vegetarian chili with a good bread is very satisfying!

If it helps any, my husband used to be a dedicated carnivore. Some kind of animal had to be served at every meal, and his idea of a vegetable was mashed potatoes only. Now he requests some of my veg recipes because he loves the taste, one of his favorites being a vegetable picnic sandwich of all things. (Had you told me this 10 years ago, I never would have believed you.)

Anything other than meat! lol. But if you want to be a healthy vegetarian, you will have to learn how.

Of course you can research online, that's easy. My recommendation would be to simply increase the amount of vegetables/fruits/legumes etc. and decrease the amount of meat rather than completely changing.

As a word of encouragement, when i eat vegetable dishes made by meat-eaters it tends to suck. They just don't know how to make veges nice (this is a generatilasion of course, there are also people who can do well with both). But vegetarians are often forced ot make an effort- we learn how to make our dishes amazing. In high school I had some friends who visited my home specifically to eat mum's cooking.

Wow! It's not as if all I eat is steak! And I don't drink coke. The most I eat meat is two or three times a week. Well, I guess I eat it here and there without really noticing. Like meat on a ham and cheese sandwich. Or hamburger in a pasta dish or something. But it's only like once a week that I regularly eat meat as a main dish.

Usually I suggest people start by just removing the meat from the plate and add an extra scoop of the other courses. That way there's very little change and the new veggie's eating exactly what he did before, minus the meat.
If your usual meal is a Big Mac and fries, however, you'll need to find some new staples.

I think she's (?) referring to a dietary fad based on the theory that digestion and nutrition are enhanced if foods processed in different parts of the digestive tract, at different pHs and by different enzymes, are eaten seperately, so as to be processed most efficiently.
