Dark room or let the sun in

It's unfortunate that these are things you have to worry about. I'm grateful to have old people neighbors.

Oh I don't think it's that big of a deal, honestly. Every place anyone ever lives at has certain expectations that people should take into account. For me, living in the city has far more draws than downsides, and I have yet to actually experience anything more negative than living outside of the city. It's what it's!

In the morning as soon as it gets light we open the curtains and let the light in. I've been to several people's house's that keep their curtains/shades closed all day. To me that is a depressive environment.

Do you let the light in or keep it closed out?

Open the blinds in the morning, like you, once it's light. If it's cool outside, open the windows too.

This doesn't always correspond to when I wake up though, so if it's still dark, it feels cozy to have everything stay closed.

I keep mine closed because I don't want to advertise to everyone who walks past my window that I have a 75" tv, a Playstation 5, a nice computer and all the other various things that someone of a lesser moral standing might want to have for themselves. Plus, the only view I have is of the parking lot behind my apartment building. When I want to see nature, I just go outdoors
I always assume having everything on display will do the opposite.... show folks there's nothing in here anyone's wanting!

Most of the time the shutters are opened when we get up and closed when the light fades.
But in the height of summer the shudders on the sunny side a kept closed to help keep the heat out.

Mid day direct sun in the tropics is
too intense.

I agree, a dark home is depressing. I love the light.
