"God" is the name that some theists use for the god or gods that they primarily worship.
That's it as far as a common definition, AFAICT. However, every specific God has attributes and qualities for its own specific definition.
In my brief existence (what is that?) in the RF I've seen a lot of different uses of the term "God" by the users. Some people assume that others have the same definition, others believe that the word have a unique meaning shared by everyone (you can call it a meta meaning for understands sake), others believe just the opposite of that. Sometimes (a lot of times?) those interpretations aren't true.
Some of you already have realized my obsession with meaning. Sooooo... I liked to get some of that meaning out of you guys and girls and ask this: Define "God"!
Rules:
1. Please don't derail the thread, this is not a debate.
2. Answer the question twitter style (if possible).
3. ????
4. If you don't have a definition write your best guess (of what you think is your definition).
5. Don't ask about rule number 3.
6. If your definition is already here, like it.
Obs: My best guess for what's my definition of the word is "everything".
NOTE:
For clarification. Your definition of the word is independent of what I think of the word or anyone think of the word. When you read the word, independent of context, what comes to your mind? That's the "real question", I think.
Thanks for @Quintessence for this note.
If you don't use "God" as the name for your god, then you aren't part of the "some theists" I was referring to.However, God is Not a name, God is a title as Lord is a title, and Not a personal name. Scripture says there are many gods - 1 Corinthians 8:5-6; Philippians 3:19
The pagan gods are named in Scripture such as Baal.
God's name is represented by the Tetragrammaton YHWH.
KJV at Psalms 110:1 mentions two (2) LORD/Lords.
The Lord in some lower-case letters stand for the Lord Jesus.
The LORD in all upper-case letters is where the Tetragrammaton stands.
So, KJV substituted LORD for God's name: YHWH
God is someone who I like to be my friend forever.
But what does "friend of the world" really mean?Abraham is God's friend forever - Isaiah 41:8
James gave us a clue as to how we can be God's friend -> James 2:23; James 4:4
Yes G-d does whatever good He wants.God is everything we are not.
I agree with you. That which must be.
In what circumstance would God NOT want to do good?Yes G-d does whatever good He wants.
