Delta variant twice as dangerous, but vaccine very effective

Data from England shows people with Delta variant covid are twice as likely to be hospitalized as the old alpha variant, but the good news is the vaccine is well over 90% effective at preventing hospitalization compared to unvaccinated people with the virus.

Covid: Delta variant patients twice as likely to need hospital care

This isn't a debate, but I hope in this case, it's still okay to present another narrative for additional considerations:

As Delta spread, Covid vaccine effectiveness against infection fell to 66%

My posting this isn't necessarily disagreeing with the spirit of your post, though.

Either it works well or it dosent.

If you still have to wear masks, it's still a crap vaccine.

If you don't, bingo you have a winnaarr!

Yes the vaccine is only 66% protecting from any level of infection, but the same vaccine is over 90% effective in preventing the infection from being severe enough to require hospitalizations, thats the difference, the vast majority of vaccinated infections are asymptomatic, and severe illness is very rare for the vaccinated.

What a stupid statement, you probably have been getting the flu vaccine every year, what percent effective do you think it is? A vaccine that is 95% effective at stopping you from dying compared to unvaccinated infections is pretty damn effective, much more so than the flu vaccine.

After a year and a half some people have achieved full immunity, from factual information.

It could be pretty much the same in effectiveness. People are still catching the flu and people are still infected with COVID despite the vaccines.

No use of getting booster shots, wearing masks again, and currently upholding vaccine passports if cases and deaths are waning enough to connect vaccines as a cause. We would be easing on restrictions not raising them.

Do you take every number you see as is?

It reminds me of a sanitizer products that say it's 99% effective. Leaving out that 1% as not to get sued. It's an effective way to get people to buy products. Food products are another example.

To recognize that vaccination doesn't eliminate risks is useful.
It means that we should still take precautions, eg, masks, hand
washing, social distancing (IMO).
You're not advocating eschewing vaccination.

IMO the biggest success of the vaccine in the UK has been in greatly reducing the pressure on hospitals. The NHS is now struggling to cope with an enormous backlog of routine surgery and treatments.

here in the US we have non covid emergency patients dying because the ICU is filled up with unvaccinated Covid patients, they are literally killing innocent people in their anti vax ignorance.

We wear a mask so reality-deniers who don't think vaccinations are necessary don't get sick and die. Unlike them, we care about other humans besides ourselves. Mask wearing has always been about others and not just ourselves. You didn't get that memo yet?

Consistency? Perfection? In this world? Good luck with that absolutist thinking. There is absolutely nothing in this world that is 100% reliable.
