I don't think it's too far out for it to be not authentic
In my infantry unit I had a friend who had a special forces tattoo on his arm he never went into Special Forces as far as I know , but he was a soldier who had the tattoo as an inspiration.I don't understand what legitimate reason a person would have for such a tattoo other than as a badge of service

As one who has served in the Air Force, I don't assume anyone wearing a bomber jacket is a pilot.
