I'm not so sure that he still has the power for that. Even the MAGA crowd has become less rabid than before. They may still vote for him, but will they fight for him? There aren't as many who show up at his rallies, and some leave the moment he starts with his shark story or other bull****. The insurrectionists are mostly in prison, and others will think about that.
I hope when he loses in November, it's over.
But then again, I said the same in 2020, and man was I wrong.

For those thinking this could just be a small social media article that is getting too much air time.
It is now in several more respectable news sources, as well as Tampa’s Fox station.

But much more importantly, DeSantis has been advised of the situation, and instead of downplaying it as rumor and left-wing propaganda, he is saying, Yeah. We (Republicans at my command) ARE IN FACT DOING THIS, but that’s not a bad thing.

yes, Gestapo has been minimized as a word, but as the cousin child of a Hitler Jugend member, I agree with @Jayhawker Soule , we are not yet near the point of relegating it to the historical relevance of different Roman or Grecian armies relative to human interaction.

Yes it has a slang definition, but it is not sufficiently removed from personal experience of many to relegate it to that any more than Ni***er is even if some have co-opted it. It was inappropriate in this case.

I don't go for sensationalism at all, of which today's media is notorious, but I do believe this story needs national attention, and this word definitely draws attention. Perhaps "-like" attached would have been more appropriate? And I do hope it doesn't get over-played until it's in the same hollow category as the word "unprecedented" has become.
