Describe faith in one word.

I saw a thread that seems to have faded out quite a long time ago that asked the same question. I want to start the idea up again and expand it, I think it will be fun! So:
Describe faith in one word.
Describe religion in one word.
Describe spirituality in one word.
Describe your religion or faith in one word (try not to just give a name like "Christianity" or "Hinduism").

Now, if you have the time, describe each one in one picture!

A Catholic priest from Gana was listening to my confession at the time I practiced. We talked for about three hours. He told me about the religions in his land. He said that the residents would go to the water to be with the Spirit of the water. (In my view, that's where we came from the water, so what he said was beautiful). He said not many Americans listen to people of his culture with a serious and non judgmental eye. So, we talked more.

I talked with a Santera and we just connected. Everything I said about the Spirits, ancestors, even how I see god she completely understood without my needing to explain "this is my religion" or "this is my belief."

So, I'd say that one word for religion is: Gratitude. You have to be grateful with what you have, really. When you come across people who "get it" its a beautiful thing.

Anyway. That's my take.

faith: underinterpreted
religion: misunderstood
spirituality: overpraised
my religion (which is no religion): morality

i say faith is underinterpreted because of how complex of a thing it is in terms of matter

Fire/Air.

(Currently not pledged to one)

I know this may not make total sense, but I thought the elements were a good way to communicate what I was thinking

This is an absolutely beautiful way to describe faith, religion, and spirituality.

If I can wrap that up....

(1) Faith is an inward conviction made possible by the grace of God that leads us to

(2) a state of reverence ('awe, amazement, stillness'): a spiritual experience of God, the supernatural, and the ineffable, which in turn makes us open to

(3) transcendence: a humbling of the self in respectful recognition of something perceived to be greater than the self, giving us the ability to pass beyond the limitations of, and attachments to, the impermanent things of this world, through adherence to

(4) the dictates of our conscience, which is the voice of the Holy Spirit within us.

Conviction, reverence, transcendence, conscience....To me that is the mystical path to union with God....
