Describe your gender

What's the difference between gender and personality here?
It's kinda hard to explain cuz we dont really have the language in english. But try this...explain what femininity is to you...some may say femininity is like soft, calm, and nurturing energy. While mascuilinity is intense, vibrant and harsh. It's really individual and hard to describe because of the lack of language here

Orbit

I'm a planet
For me, gender is entirely a social construction: it's about a "performance" one does taking into account what the reactions of other people will be. There's no emotion or images or "vibes" attached to it for me.

@JustGeorge. Did this clear it up or confuse you more? Like i said the lack of language here makes things difficult

I think I struggle a little to see where the difference is with personality/gender.
Most associate femininity and masculinity with gender identity. But exactly what is femininity and masculinity? If i asked you to describe it you may use odd terms that dont seem to relate. Im not talking about personality when i say my gender is intense. Im not saying it's associated with intense behavior. For me I associate my gender with an intense energy that to me feels gendered? Like some say the moon is feminine it's a goddess. What is it about the moon that someone would associate it with a goddess rather then a god? Is it the energy it gives off? Or something else?

Im probably failing to word things here.

@JustGeorge
There may even be an overlap with personality and gender. After all it is a personal and indiviual thing and like @Orbit. said it is a social construct.

Edit: still confused? Im trying here with the language gap

This is not a debate forum. I also dont want to discuss if trans and nonbinary folk exist. This is just an exercise I found in a book about gender and spirituality. Thought itd be interesting to see folks reply

Without using the words masculine, feminine, female, male, boy, or girl, or any other similarly themed words...
Describe your gender.

My gender just is. I don't actively think of it or try to express myself a certain way so that I would fit or not fit into any given gendered concepts.

Guitar's Cry

Disciple of Pan
I feel at times like a fighter, at times like a nurturer. I feel rooted in the woods, and like a shadow in a primal wood. I am often centered in my sexuality, and I feel both exposed and vulnerable, and strong and confident. Sometimes I am a vibrating well-tuned instrument and sometimes an aging one behind glass.

I can be a sheathed knife and a piercing dagger.

Secret Chief

Very strong language
A lot of folk dont know how to answer that question unless you count nonbinary folk. Not many people have tried to think about their gender and especially dont try to consider it without using binary language. Try this...pause think about your gender identity. What energy does it give off when you think about it? Can you relate that energy to nonhuman things like the sun? This might not help but it might help.
I see it as a social construct. I'm an individual and also a part of a particular culture. I don't know how much or little I conform to the societal expectations of my gender, nor does it concern me. Is there a meh energy? :relaxed:

I suppose it is unconscious. I don't really care what it is any more than I care about my hair colour.

Describe your gender.

I'll go first.

My gender is at times as intense as the sun but also as soft as the moon. It is the dark quiet of the forest, and like the sound of the wind at night. It is in your face like a cat grabbing your arm and insisting you pet it...it is like a tornado that gently places a young child on the ground.
Gender is like which costume to wear at a Halloween party.

I don't know how to do that. If you asked me what my gender was, I would give you the biological answer, male. If you asked me how I feel, I would say like a man. If you asked me how I prefer to be perceived and treated, it's as a man. If you asked me if I feel masculine, I wouldn't know how to answer. I've never worn makeup or an earring or women's clothing, nor had any desire to do so, but I am a gentle person with no macho inclinations, either, and prefer the company of women to men.

But as you indicated, it's not an issue for somebody in a man's body who identifies as a man and therefore nothing I've had to think about with regard to myself.

As has others have already said, I also wouldn't use the word gender in this context. Personality or disposition describe those kinds of qualities for me.

Most associate femininity and masculinity with gender identity.

I don't think that is the case.

I see mostly two kinds of people, as far as this subject is concerned:

1) One group says our gender is necessarily bound by our biological sex. Meaning that even if someone exhales the most pure femininity and no masculinity, they still ought to be gendered as male if they have male gonads.

2) The second group says that what matters is self-identification. Someone's own judgment over what is their own gender takes precedence, no matter what criteria was used, over any external evaluation.
