Dharma and race

That is very true too. I once stopped for gas where the attendant was Indian or Pakistani. He began to comment that Hindus are idol worshippers and worship false gods and blah blah blah. I said no, we don't worship idols or false gods. There is only one God Hindus worship, and it is not an idol. Apparently he had been brainwashed because then he gave me a sort of sheepish "oh, well then... " and then shut up about it. Btw, I haven't been back to the gas station since.

I have had to explain to people before that I do NOT worship idols. I worships a Goddess that is being SYMBOLICALLY represented by an idol. The Idol is like a spiritual focal point with which I can commune with the deities (almost like a spiritual telephone!) But I know full well that the idol is NOT the God.

But they don't get it. The closest you could come is telling a Catholic "you pray in front of a saint's statue, don't you?"

The worst you get is

Best yet was when someone asked my if I make "human offerings to Kali Maa" you know like in the movies.

My response? "Only if someone asks me a stupid question."

Priceless. :)

Apropos that, I think it's in the movie The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad the evil wizard brings a statue to life that is supposed to be Kali. He calls her by name and tells her to kill Sinbad and his crew, which she tries to do. In the end Sinbad wins and the statue is smashed. Very offensive.

IMO, such friction happens with every kind of other-ness. Males herd together and women do the same. People of one political party will be nasty to people of other parties etc. etc.

jai jai , this is indicative of the lower levels of human nature and is for us to rise above .

There is a deeper aspect in this too. Rishis Vashista and Visvamitra, both said to be brahma rishis, fought. It is the Gunas that act. Because we are attached to these Gunas as 'Me', we invariably get affected.

jai jai this is perfect ''It is the Gunas that act'' ......and is for us to aspire towards Sattvic behavoir and not allow our selves to stoop to tamasic behavior ...

in all truth it is better that we dont react to ignorance if anyone is so foolish as to dissrespect another , then I pray that they come to realise that these bodies are imperminant , I may be born white , black or any shade between , but it is what is in the heart that matters . ....love of god has no colour .

Yes Ratikala. All that one can do is to get a control over oneself. There is nothing else one can do and nothing else one has to do. IMO.

jai jai prabhu ji , you are perfectly right , in this kaliyuga there is ignorance all around us but we should not let that ignorance distract us from our devotions ,
so to control our selves is to remain un afected by ignorance . ....

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu left only eight verses of instructions known as 'Siksastakam'

in which he says ....

''One who thinks him self lower than a blade of grass , who is more tolerant than a tree , who does not expect personal honour , yet is allways prepaired to offer all respects to others is qualified to chant the holy name of the lord .''

Humility is the Higest atainment , what another thinks or says is unimportant ,

we must know this , and remain focused what ever the distraction around us , to take issue with these people is to run the risk of becomeing as ignorant as them .

Sri Krsna himself says ... ''fix your mind on me'' ....

what better advice can one have ?
