Did God fail with the great flood.

In the bible God destroys all of mankind because of the wickedness. He left just one righteous family and all the rest of the evil should have been destroyed. So why is there still evil if it was supposed to be destroyed?

Seems like attempting to drown all the evil never really made much of a difference. Evil still creeps up, perhaps some of Noahs kids had the sort of evil that skips some generations.

What I take from the myth is that even if we "wipe away" all of the "evil people" and start again, evil will continue to exist, because evil is an act, and not a state of being.

I tend to agree.

Kinda begs the question as to what was the point of doing it, given the belief that god knows everything.

Too bad god couldn't have foreseen the futility of his actions. But then we wouldn't have the Grand Canyon, the fossilization of ancient animals, and the nicely layered strata of sediments.

The story isn't about destroying evil. That really isn't the suggestion. Noah is never said to be perfect, or all good. In fact, we are shown that Noah can also commit evil. So the story is not about evil.

Actually i just looked it up and it seemed he wanted to wipe us out because he didnt like us anymore, but Noah was the exception it seemed.

Because Night follows Day. Darkness follows Light. Death follows Life.

Because long term planning has never been the strength of bible god.

Least not with the problem of evil.

Nothing is permanent; so evil was destined to return

In those days.there where giants, called the sons of God in the same passage, or literally fallen angels breeding with the daughters of men and having children....of course that isn't what they teach in sunday school now is it.
The word giants in the text comes from the hebrew word nephilim, which means fallen one or angel, thus the reason for the flood. Now given the fact that angels.are cellestial and eternal, and cannotbe redeemed.given the fact they have no soul, jesus didnt die for the angels. The flood just killed their bodies and left their spirits to.wander.the earth....thus demonic possession, you can of course pick up this text by reading the book of Enoch mentioned in the book of jude.
I also must post a link to my questions about this fabled.flood.... http://www.religiousforums.com/forum/religious-debates/139499-questions-about-fable-noah.html

If God failed, He failed from the get go. Unless this is God's plan. Which makes you wonder how terrible this god truly is.....

To your point, many believe that it was God "purifying" the human race. Which again, makes you wonder about God's MO.

Fact is, the flood was a natural localized happening that ancient ignorant and superstitious people attributed to a deity to help explain/excuse it.

Well the bible actually says

5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 The LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
7 The LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them."
8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.

It reads to me that God sent the flood out of disappointment in his creation, but only spared Noah because he liked him.
