Did man really land on the moon 1969?

It's a conspiracy theory. I have a picture ( i'll see if I can put it up) that indicates it was a fake.

There is some evidence saying it was false, but none of it is conclusive.

One such evidence is the fact that the flag they planted waved in the wind, when there was no wind on the moon.

How do you know that the picture isn't fake?

Solar Wind?

I am sorry, I can't believe it was a conspiracy and fake; those days of the race between Russia and America to get a flag on the surface of the Moon are still as fresh today as if it was yesterday. It was for real.:) Cos I say so!:D

Solar wind is very weak unless the surface area of the object is huge. Not flag sized.

I believe you will find that is one argument behind the moon landing being a conspiracy, that the photos taken were faked. Besides, why would NASA release photos which were not only faked but faked in such a way that indicates the moon landing might be a hoax as you are implying :S? There is some rather weak evidence to suggest that the photos have been doctored such as the crosshairs being partially obscured by some objects when they should be in the foreground.

What I have to admit that I do not understand is how the astronauts were protected from such a high level of radiation without the protection of an atmosphere. And the fact that there is no blast crater in any of the pictures which you would have thought should have been created during landing and take off. I'm sure there are explanations for these things, however, but I find it curious that NASA does not stamp on what has become such a widespread theory by offering these explanations.

I don't believe it was faked. I know several people who worked for NASA during the Apollo project. I worked for one of them for almost 10 years (he is now retired, but still alive). He was the type of no-nonsense person who would have had no truck with the sort of vast conspiracy required to fake several different moon missions. Beyond that, when I toured the Johnson Space Center and saw all of the people and the materials on display; and talked to people who participated, it became very hard to continue to entertain the conspiracy ideas. I have friends who work at NASA today; they are also not people who would spend their lives perpetrating a fraud. BTW, most people who work there believe very strongly in what they do; it is not "just a job" for them.

Myself, I can't believe that that large of a conspiracy could remain a secret. This is way bigger than Enron or Worldcom, and those were only sustainable for a certain period of time. This one should have broken wide open many years ago if the conspiracy theory were true. Again, just my opinion.

You are certainly welcome to continue to believe this if you wish, of course.

..........."In pictures of the lunar surface, we see our red, white, and blue waving in all triumphant glory, proving we have at last reached the surface of the moon…wait, did I say waving? Most of the public finds a waving flag – a waving flag on the surface of a moon without wind or atmosphere – a bit difficult to believe. Because there is no wind, they say, the flag should not be moving at all! Well, this understandable misconception is easily countered with the knowledge that there was a rod holding the flag horizontal off the staff, so it wouldn’t drape along the pole. When the astronauts arranged the flag on the pole, the simple inertia made the flag appear to be “waving.” Any physics professor will confirm Newton’s Law that an object in at rest – or in motion - will continue until acted upon by an opposing force. Since the flag was adjusted by the astronauts and since there is no wind or friction to counter that force, the flag appears to be waving."............... Fluffy, i agree with you about the picture. reread my post. I was asking wether or not he knew if his "fake picture" was fake. i believe we really did land on the moon.

I saw them demonstrate convincingly that the flag waved because of the tension on the pole (no joke intended pervs). Since the moon has very little atmosphere or gravity, any minor disturbance has a greater effect than on Earth. Also, they recreated the lighting and it was a perfect match with the video footage. Things are usually as they seem in my estimation.

Michel that is a much more convincing argument, in my opinion, that any about solar wind. Thank you for resting that one point to mind in my head :).

Ah fair enough :). I retract my admonishment :). Sorry for misunderstanding. I believe that we landed on the moon as well, I would just like to see a more concerted effort on the part of NASA to wipe out a conspiracy which does actually have rather convincing evidence in places when looked at without an apparent refutal at hand.

"Not every waving flag needs a breeze -- at least not in space. When astronauts were planting the flagpole they rotated it back and forth to better penetrate the lunar soil (anyone who's set a blunt tent-post will know how this works). So of course the flag waved! Unfurling a piece of rolled-up cloth with stored angular momentum will naturally result in waves and ripples -- no breeze required!"

America landed on the moon during the Cold War. This means that America and Russia were great enemies, and had spies EVERYWHERE. Air waves were monitored, planes flying over head to see whats going on, even people just appearing to be everyday pedestrains were gathering information. Had the moon landing been faked, Russia would have found out, and quickly spread the word.

michel-- Great post, thanks for the explanation. Isn't it amazing what a little knowledge can do to a conspiracy theory? :)
