Did you know that...

Ahh poor Prima :(

All rodents hate me, well actually they really like the taste of my blood but i count that as the same thing.

Was it a red squirrel? Squirrels are actually quite easily proveoked, but rarely do they bite more than once before running.
Do you guys get red squirrels over there?? All our reds were wiped out when grays were brought over from the Americas.

That sounds like one aggressive squirrel Prima . As Druidus said , they usually run . But yes , I have been bite by a Red Squirrel . As a child . But it was my own fault . I reached into a hole and grabed it ... it grab me back . :)

Growing up around animals , my list of bites are about as long as Net Doc's . :) Squirrel , Raccoons { several times } , Ravens , Seagulls , Geese , Mice { several types , including mice-like creatures } , Cats , Dogs , a Fox , nipped by a Horse , Marmot , a non-posionous Snake once { although I'm not sure if it bit or what it did } , been cut by different types of fish , but don't recall actually being bit . Oh yea , and chickens . ;) But not by the whole flock . I think that is all that actually broke the skin . It seems that I never have been able to keep my hands out of places they don't belong ...

Oh , and I have been kicked by a White-tail , which cut my leg open . You are correct Hope , Deer can be dangerous too . I almost hit one a few weeks ago . I saw it's ears in the ditch and hit the brakes just as it jumped out in front of me .

Did I say a Rabbit ? Been kicked by them too . They can lay you open quite good . My uncle raised them and had his fore-arm cut open from wrist to elbow .

Yes , the Red Squirrel is actually more common here . I thought that the Gray was interduced ? Oh well . In Canada , the Grays are mostly found in cities and in Ont. . In the East we also have Flying Squirrels . Which I believe is a type of Red ???

I've just remembered a time when myself and a friend were on the verge of attack by a pack of wild dogs. We we bycicling from one town to the next and had to peddle up a bridge. Once we began the decent, we decided to make a left turn into an unknown area. It was an industrial area with factories. As we went along the path on our bikes, suddenly I noticed at first one dog, I didn't think it was a big deal. Then slowly eleven dogs started to come out from everywhere. They had their teeth bared and were definately unfreindly. I called back to my friend and told him to stop going so fast and to come to a gentle roll, almost a stop. Then I told him not to look in their eyes as this would be perceived as a threat. We put our feet on the ground and purposely walked our bikes. I said that we should continue extremely slowly, don't look directly at them , but keep them in our periferal vision. Finally they backed off from their barking and growling and let us slowly pass. I believe that that was one of the most fearful moments in my life. I know what a pack of wild dogs can do. The main thing to remember is not to look in their eyes and don't try to smile at them, for our smile looks like bared teeth and is a threatening posture in their eyes. I did speak to them in what I thought was a calming tone just repeating "It's ok baby, good dog, good dog." One never knows if some of these dogs have come from living with people and perhaps these words, spoken in a deep and soft tone, might be just the thing to calm them. I don't know what I would have done if they had attacked us. I guess I would have tried to fall to the ground and ball up my body as tight as I could and pray that they would finally go away. I hope I am never in that situation again.

Joyfully,
Martha

That sounds very frightening Martha . I'm a firm believer in talking to animals . I believe it is the tone that makes the difference .

Squirrels cannot have rabies?

Go ahead - guess how I know.

I got attacked by a squirrel today!

I was all worried, thought I'd have to get all those rabies shots, but thankfully, I just needed a tetanus shot. For the record, it bled a LOT, and those little buggers have sharp teeth.

Has anyone else been bitten/attacked/injured by an animal? A wild animal?
I got bit by a squirrel once when I was trying to give it some peanuts. The little bugger tried to take my finger instead. It did hurt, too.

Once when I was little I was climbing a tree and apparantly got too close to a blue jay nest, because I got dive bombed by two blue jays. They kept swooping down and taking pecks at me.

Another time I ended up with this monitor lizard that had gotten loose in the neighborhood, and had a dachsund pinned in the corner of a yard. It was a pretty big lizard. When I couldn't get him to eat, I tried to force feed him, and almost lost a finger. I had owned iguanas before, but this thing had the jaws of an alligator, and once it clamped down on my finger it was not easy getting it off.
