Difference between reciting Daimoku and listening to it

I'm back to Buddhism after many spiritual experiments and I had a very good experience so far in just two days after reciting just a little of the "nam myoho renge kyo". Basically the benefits so far have been a better mood and getting rid of a feeling of paranoia. Before, everytime I tried to relax I felt I was being attacked by warrior spirits (real or imagined, I don't know). Runes and affirmations helped a little to drive the supposed astral warriors away, but the best method was reciting the Daimoku, even mentally.

I felt not much before with that mantra and now I realize that I have to recite it and not only listen at it for it to work. There are many good youtube videos of the Daimoku for example, but if I don't chant along, nothing happens and it can even become annoying, as does hearing any other common phrase over and over.

In the case of "om mani padme hum" however I can hear it and it will work anyway; I don't even have to concentrate on it very much to feel something or enter in a trance.

Does it happen the same to you with some mantras?

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

I take it you practice Nichiren Shoshu?

I think chant helps you focus although I can see where mayko can crop up. Although I do enjoy experiences, they can be easily dismissed.

I belong to no group, sect, church, cult, etc. my testimonial is not to attract any followers. Sorry I didn't make that clear from the beginning.

My question should have been: Is there a reason why some mantras act only when you recite them out aloud, others when you chant them and others in any way?

BTW, who's Mayko?

In my practice i do not use mantras, But when you say them out aloud it create energy that is a part of you, this in my understanding is why you feel they help more. because of the energy in the vibration

Anyway I had to leave the practice of Daimoku already. In a few days it started as very beneficial, then turned into useless repetition, then it left me stupid. I felt it nullified my mind. I don't know what was the problem, but maybe I won't try that mantra again.

And the stupid paranoia returned, so I'll have to relax and meditate on self-worth, forgiveness, etc. I can't afford a shrink right now (and I don't have much faith in them anyway).
