Diocese says it must end all state-funded adoption, foster services

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
The only reason the landlord in this case is allowed more personal flexibility is because in a garage apartment or roommate situation, the single unit is located on the homestead property. The same landlord may own a rent house next door, but on a different lot which is not part of the homestead property. In that case, laws protecting homestead property to not come into play and the landlord is under a "regular" landlord/tenant set of laws.

... but keeping in mind that many people who bear the scarlet (S) are not dangerous at all. Sex offenders include people who were teenagers having consentual sex with someone just one year younger -- and the age of consent varies from state to state.

True, but in some states how dangerous they are is of no consequence. If they are required to register as an offender, they are required to announce to their neighborhood in person that they live there. They also have certain restrictions such as not being able to live within so many feet of a school, church, park, etc.

I was just unable to find anything on google to provide as a source.

Yeah, I know.

But it's more than a little tragic that the states don't distinguish between harmless and potentially harmful sex offenders. The stigma is there whether a person raped a child or had consentual sex with someone a few months younger than themselves.

I totally agree. A 17 yr old boy who has consensual sex with his 16 yr old girlfriend who was turned in by the girls parents is in a totally different league than a 40 yr old person who molests/rapes a minor, or even a 40 yr old who has consensual sex with a minor.

There needs to be distinctions IMO.

That's what the registry is for. You can access information about sex offenders and find out such things. Like how old they were at the time and how old their victims were. I just looked up my former neighbor...

Conviction Date County Age at Offense Victim Age Victim Gender Weapon Used

So he was actually 37 at the time of the crimes and his victim was a female under the age of 13. That's a lot of possibilities for her age as well. She could have been 3 or 8 or a baby. It doesn't distinguish, but it sure as hell wasn't a case of a boyfriend that was just a few months older having consensual sex with his girlfriend.

I can also access a map that pinpoints where every registered sex offender is around me within a given radius. And let me tell you...it's disturbing. With the sheer amount around me I have one hell of a hard time believing that they were all statutory rape cases.

Yea, the link I posted above lets you search anywhere in the country, and provides pictures of them as well.

Yeah, I used the Iowa one and it lists their address, picture, age, crimes, and even pinpoints them all on maps. It is a handy thing to know.
