Currently if you join a parent forum of one DIR you will have access to all subforums.
Again: I've joined the Abrahamic Religions DIR. Do I have 'access' to the Christian or Islam subforums comparable to that granted members of those faiths?

Over and over again? Are you kidding??

Look, this is what we are trying to prevent. Accidental Rule 10 violations. People joining the forum and not realizing that DIRs are treated different. Simple as that.

This is a simple approach. New member joins, they are unable to post in the DIRs until they understand how they are treated. They then opt in to the areas they wish to participate in and are given access.

Not sure what is so seemingly outrageous about this approach? No one is being restricted and we are doing this to help people avoid warnings.

Right now you do yes. This may change in the future. Per my first post:

It seems to me that this completely undermines the whole idea of the DIR as set forth in Rule 10.2. I hope you reconsider in the near future.

Believe it or not, most of the people on this forum are human.

Rival, please.

"Accidental Rule 10 violations." Why was that so hard to drag out of you, Brent? Doggone, this is not the first time your communication skills announcing major changes to the site have created upset in the users and you've had to scramble to clarify things and smooth the waters. But why not implement your new rule for new joiners and let the rest of us be? I'm done with this thread. Again, thanks for hearing me out. No need to respond, que sera sera.

You only have access in that you can post within there. It doesn't mean you should. We are still working on how to set up the permissions and organize the forums.

Cut tech nerds some slack.
If we were good at communication, we'd be psychotherapists, salesmen or movie stars.
But we're not, so we're not.

Speak for yourself! I have a stellar career in a variety of pictures! (that's show biz talk for films, which is show biz talk for movies.)
Moaning & grunting your way thru a porn flick hardly qualifies as "communication".
