In Islam, the dress code for both men and women is based on modesty
. Both sexes are instructed to dress in a certain way that is conservative and pleasing to our Lord.

Women are required to wear the hijab, which is intended to cover all parts of the body except face and hands. It makes sense given that two of the characteristics that most women are coveted for, especially in western societies, are their hair and their chests.

The beauty of the hijab is that it is empowering and gives a woman the ability to remove her sexuality from the equation
. The hijab raises the Muslim woman above her non-Muslim counterparts, whose worth is often determined by their beauty and ability to attract the attention of men. The hijab forces a Muslim woman to be seen as an intelligent being rather than a piece of meat to be ogled by men.

For a revert to Islam, embracing the hijab can be a difficult decision especially when living in a non-Muslim society. However, it is important to note that despite any reservations, all Muslim women should make haste in wearing the hijab as it is a commandment from God Almighty...

American Muslims are sometimes seen to have views and lifestyles quite different to widely accepted American values.

Islam is considered by some to clash with the American way of life.

Do you believe this to be the case or do you think there are norms and values that are shared?

Men are Protectors and Maintainers of Women-Part 1

A husband, therefore, has the responsibility of taking care of his wife, protecting her, defending her honor, and fulfilling her needs regarding her religion and her worldly life. It does not mean – as all too many people have falsely assumed – that he has the right to behave obstinately towards her, compel her, subject her to his will, suppress her individuality, and thus heinously negate her identity.

His status as protector and maintainer is pure responsibility, pure liability, and not so much a position of authority. It requires from him that he uses his good sense, thinks carefully about what he does, and exercises patience. It means that he cannot be hasty and offhanded in his decisions. It does not mean that he can disregard his wife’s opinions and belittle her good person.

Why Does Islam Make Men the Protectors and Maintainers of Women?

The verse gives us two reasons why men are given this burden to shoulder. God says: {…because of what Allah has preferred one with over the other…} and {…because of what they spend to support them from their wealth.} A problem arises when it is said that men have a preference to women...

Blessed to Believe in the Oneness of Allah

According to Islam, God Almighty is the All-Knowing, All-Wise and All-Powerful. There is no partner or being before or after Him.

It is God who has the power over the universe and everything in it. Belief in the oneness of God is just one of the mercies that God has bestowed upon His Creation.

The knowledge that God is the one and only helps Muslims become more dedicated to their faith and become positive forces in the community. It also makes us aware of our actions and helps us to strive in pleasing our Lord with good deeds and acts of worship.
The belief in the oneness of God impacted my life well before I had uttered the Shahadah, or declaration of faith. It removed the confusion from my heart and soothed my soul as I began praying to God for guidance as a Christian. It was the first stepping-stone that paved my path towards the Islamic faith. As humans we can connect with our Lord and Cherisher around the clock.

There is no need for an intercessor to tell you when or if you may speak with your Lord.
You don’t have to make an appointment. The farthest that any Muslim can be away from his/her Lord is the span between the knees and the floor. The Islamic prayer, performed five times a day, gives all Muslims a private audience with their Lord. Through the Islamic prayer we can repent and beg God Almighty for forgiveness. There is no need to go through a “middle man” to have our sins forgiven...
