Disturbing news in Canada - "Whites Only" signs posted

I confess, I am unhappy to have to post this, but post it I must. Canada's RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) are investigating some "Whites Only" signs in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam areas of metropolitain Vancouver, British Columbia. The signs, titled "Whites Only - Moms and Tots," which are also circulating on social media, read, in part: "Are you looking for somewhere your children can play with others that look like them? Are they tired of being a minority in their schools or daycares? Escape forced 'diversity' and join other proud parents of European children as we create an atmosphere in which our kids can feel like they belong." (A QR code and a web address lead people to a space on the Telegram messaging app, which often keeps racists cosier than more mainstream social media apps.)

Statistics Canada 2021 census data of the Port Moody-Coquitlam electoral district found 51,375 residents were part of a racialized group or visible minority, while 62,515 residents were not, so lets be clear -- those poor, suffering white moms and kids are not a minority.

I am quite incensed by this, but I believe strongly that this sort of garbage must be fought wherever it is found -- and especially in the country that I love and call home.

I am quite incensed by this, but I believe strongly that this sort of garbage must be fought wherever it is found -- and especially in the country that I love and call home.

The sickness which lay hidden has sadly emerged in many places including those that seemed free from it. It manifests in different ways in different places from race bigotry, religious intolerance, authoritarian suppression of freedoms and war but at the root I find hatred and fear.

I'm reminded of what Dr. Reverend Martin Luther King said in his famous speech. Change a few words and it applies here:

...In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

Probably what happened is the parents are being crappy people and saw their kids having fun playing with kids who have darker skin than them.
Amd they haven't considered bullying, classism, ableism amd other mamy ways white people make other white people feel uncomfortable amd unwelcomed.
This is often amd typically a programed condition.

What makes me think that is through the accounts of Geronimo and his intense hatred of Mexicans.

After reading his biography, I really don't blame him for intensely hating Mexicans the way that he did.

And you wonder if this group of crackers has anything remotely like that going on? What did those of African, Middle Eastern and Asains, and perhaps even Mediterranean Europeans with a darker complexion (I've seen them get called Mexicans and treated like it), all do to traumatize this group of white people?

But it could be real.
My own alma mater (U of Mich) has segregated graduation ceremonies.
It allowed segregated fraternities too.
(But only to keep white students out.)

It's a possibility.

I see two kinds of racism.

It's also the legacy of humanity to focus on the tribe and hate the other. If I watch a video of two chimp communities at war, I see the only real difference is that homo sapiens uses more intellectual tools. The basis is the same.

Nothing would surprise me. A real racist mom/tot group, or a racist prank, or a racist influencer hoping for 15 minutes of racist fame.

I’m reminded of the story a few weeks back when Evangelical leaders were apparently flabbergasted by their congregation questioning why they were “quoting liberal/woke bias” in their sermons when they were literally quoting Jesus Christ.
The memes became a bit too real!

I can see the appeal to some wags in our ultra
sensitive easily triggered society the temptation
to taunt people with such gags. The sign strikes
me as mocking racist snowflakes. And a false
flag is another possibility.
