Do Aghoris have a plausible take on Hinduism

Anyways my point is it seems hard to join, and of those who are able to join they are a bit' selective.
Thanks for the info, and good on them for being selective. Too bad many street beggars have donned the sadhu garb to better their begging.

Apparently also if you're gay or some such it can be the only way out of being forced into a marriage to someone of different gender.

Yes that makes sense. There is also hearsay of a secretive neutering ritual. India is quite the complex place, that is for sure. Some of the stories you hear ... well, if western journalists want their sensationalism they could find it fairly easily if they asked questions.

No doubt. It's interesting what gets publicised. For example, based on what I've read I believe the custom of using neutered young men as guards for the Kaaba in Mecca is still going on. But one wouldn't get that kind of thing publicised much for some reason.

Honestly, I don't know how often neutering happens among sadhus.

When Guru was still in London, a man once came to him who'd neutered himself as a way of getting rid of all this distracting masculinity he had going on. Guru said basically that he'd screwed himself for this life, that he'd destroyed his opportunity to master his lower nature.

I think the neutering is probably about half myth because the western mind can't handle the idea of someone actually being able to live having mastered their lower sexual nature.

Which is weird, when there's such a great tradition of celibates in the West.

I don't know about you guys but all the videos and pictures I've seen of Aghori have them completely intact down there.

There is plenty of "information" on what sexual acts they do as part of their practice but to be honest I've never seen anything I wasn't skeptical of due to the subject matter and how easily people sensationalize such matters. It's much easier to know what they do in other respects. If I had to guess Aghori is probably one of the less sexual of the different Vamachara paths but then again it's probably hard to know without being Aghori yourself.

I've heard as such to the extent of there being a saying by someone living in India once that 'there are no homeless in India, only Shadus' due to the issue. It's rather unfortunate because it too easily muddies the waters and blurs the lines.

Unfortunately there are many sensational videos and 'documentaries' online. Worse when they find Aghori who are, according to what I was taught, are doing improper things like animal sacrifice or are seeming to do things for shock value.
