Do American troops "defend freedom"?

If you are looking for the perfect soldier or cop you will never find one. Just as you will never find the perfect doctor, lawyer or cashier at the local supermarket. But a few bad apples in the bunch do not represent the whole. I personal know many young men who had served in the United States military. Two of these men had done two tours in Iraq. Not one soldier or veteran I have ever met had been charged with any sexual misconduct. I’m not saying it does not exist. I’m just saying I don’t have any first had knowledge of it.

Mycroft

Ministry of Serendipity
My grandad worked for a certain individual who shall remain nameless. But this guy was a very successful fighter pilot in WW1, and was considered a 'hero' by many who knew of him.

My grandad, ever the inquisitive soul, asked: 'how did you managed to shoot down seventy enemy aircraft?'

The guy replied: 'What I did was, I flew slightly above my squadron, and I kept a lookout for the rookies - you can always tell who they are. Then when I found them, I'd shoot them down.'

So this guy shot down all the newbies, because it was easier to shoot down the newbies than take on more seasoned fighter pilots. You can't shoot down 70 enemy aircraft on even terms.

So that guy? That guy wasn't a hero, he was a bogtrotter.

The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other ******* die for his.
