Do astronauts believe in God ?

My opinion:

Christians used to believe that they would sail off of the flat earth if they took an ocean voyage. Some were comforted by the thought that they would be eaten by sea monsters long before they fell off the edge of the earth.

Now, some Christians believe that it is a myth (designed to fool them) that astronauts went to the moon (a mere 238,855 miles away). Clearly this is well in the realm of possibility even if it hadn't been televised.

RE: NEIL ARMSTRONG:

I believe that Armstrong was disgusted by liars who tried to promote Christianity by denying facts. So disgusted, that he didn't want to dignify their questions with answers. Also, I believe that Armstrong felt that such liars would try to twist his words and make it seem as though he said something that he did not say.

Fact Check-Neil Armstrong refusing to swear on the Bible is not proof that moon landing was fake

Armstrong says in the video: “Mr. Sibrel, knowing you, that’s probably a fake Bible.”

Armstrong then says: “Mr. Sibrel has made a fool of himself in front of the world…Mr. Sibrel, you do not deserve answers.

Armstrong said in an interview with Walter Cronkite on CBS’s Face the Nation on Aug. 17, 1969 that he was “certainly not an atheist”

posts claims Armstrong was “a devoted follower of Christianity”, however, this claim is unfounded.

"other false claims about Armstrong’s religiosity, such as the one where he converted to Islam"

"Astronaut Neil Armstrong refusing to swear on the Bible when confronted by a conspiracy theorist is not proof that the moon landing was fake."

Sources for the above quotes are found in the Reuters hypertext link above.
Christendom has always known the earth was not flat.

Eratosthenes measuring its circumference in 300BC.

Any sailor from that era would have known perfectly well that ships disappear over the horizon - and that you can keep them in view for greater distance by climbing a mast.

Nobody with any intellect seriously thought you would sail off the edge of a flat Earth.

I believe you believe the truth to be substantial. I also believe you nailed it, center of bullseye with this.

In fact, there were plenty of now removed YouTube videos which were conveniently clipped/edited to appear that Neil Armstrong was debunking the mission himself. So, even though he did not indulge in the indignity of their request he still received the flak that they were planning on peppering his character with all along.

Jesus could be saying that no matter what one swears upon it is an attempt to lie.
Hi,
But he didn't say that, did he?
There is no conceivable reason that a person would not swear that he performed an action when asked to do so, if that action was performed. The Bible does allow swearing, when a person is required to do so.
Nowhere does the Bible suggest hitting, or running away when asked to do so.

There’s a perfectly good reason. See post 40.

Not sure a website with a swear-word in the domain name is the place I'd go for the most reliable information. Not that there is anything objectively wrong with that... would just relay a sort of juvenile and unprofessional mindset of the creator for me.
Sometimes people leave out spaces for a website (instead of replacing them with legit separators). E.g. www.religiousforums.com. It can become www. a bit cheesy . com. (Drop the spaces.)

It looks like the domain in the links he keeps providing has what RF is determining as a swear word. Hmmm... 5 asterisks. Which curse word(s) could that be? Maybe the "B" word? Followed by "ute"... so that's not making particular sense.

Wait... Is that really why they chose that domain for their site's name, to intentionally use a curse word? It would make sense given their reputation for some of the creators it hosts.

I think it depends upon what swearing is. If you use the term but have not defined it then how can you say you have interpreted what Jesus is talking about when he says not to do it. If Jesus who is in the bible says not to do it, at least not under certain conditions, and if someone believes that then its difficult to say that it is inconceivable for them to think so. All they have to do is read Mat 5 and conclude "Oh looks like Jesus says not to swear and just to say yes or no."

Well played.

Looking for what you referenced, I personally found another verse rung fairly strongly. I imagine to some, it would leave them fairly strongly wrung.
My translation of it is: "You aren't on the path, unless you walk a path a cut above the written word and clergy/courts."

(NKJV) Matthew 5:20 "For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven."

Don't lean on a book, for goodness' sake! Don't rely on powerholders to properly guide, for goodness' sake. Your heart of hearts is in your head, so follow your head, for goodness' sake!

Definition of unanimous from Oxford languages;
"without opposition; with the agreement of all people involved."

It didn't have the agreement of all involved, according to Wikipedia;

'The interviews end with the request to swear an oath on Sibrel's Bible. He asks them to "swear and affirm, under penalty of eternal damnation, perjury and treason" that the astronauts really went to the Moon. Cernan and Mitchell testify that they did indeed walk on the Moon, taking the whole oath as Sibrel states it to them. Alan Bean is also willing to swear on Sibrel's Bible...'

In my opinion.
I had never heard of this Sibrel idiot. Extraordinary! What a royal pain in the arse he seems to have been. No wonder Aldrin punched him. :D

When asked to swear on the Bible they refused !
My very first reaction would also be to tell the guy to get the hell away from me if he were requesting that I "swear on The Bible" that I did ANYTHING I had purportedly done. This is precisely because there is an implicit insult in what this man is doing by walking up to these men with a Bible in his hands in the first place. Do you not see that this man with The Bible is implying that these astronauts are liars, just by walking up to them and requesting that they do this? It is an insult and an attempt at defamation of character, right off the bat. This man isn't, at all, "on the level" - he isn't trying to "set the record straight." If you think he is, then you are a fool. He knew these men would be incensed at his actions, and knew they likely wouldn't comply because of the implicit casting of their character as liars that this request most definitely brings with it.

"If you did this, then swear on The Bible that you did" from some doofus on the street, who you know is assuming you didn't do the thing you say you did, and is requesting that you "swear on The Bible" specifically because he doesn't believe you did it... that's him calling you a liar. Plain and simple. That's what it is.

That guy with The Bible in his hands is a disgusting human being. He knew what he was doing. But he was too cowardly to just come out and call them liars. The Bible being sworn on proves nothing. Nothing at all. It would be like swearing over a stack of sheets of toilet paper. Exactly the same.

This is exactly the point I too have been trying to get across. World-famous astronauts, who have completed one of the most monumental achievements of the human race, are not going waste their time futzing around with madmen and bibles.

This question is based on the following reaction of the astronauts that went to the moon.

When asked to swear on the Bible they refused !

NASA Astronauts Violently React to Being Asked To Swear On Bible

and

The request to swear on the Bible was initiated by doubts that they ever went to the moon.
Here is a link to why some question this.
https://www.*****ute.com/video/zsGclROT8GR1/

Should we ask ourselves, if they did go to the moon why would they -unanimously- refuse to swear on the Bible to confirm it ?
Another question is, if they don't believe in the Bible and in God, why hesitate to swear on the Bible even if they did lie about it?
Wouldn't (for an atheist) lying about going to the moon be a bigger lie than swearing on the Bible ?

What are you'r thoughts on this ?

It seems the link didn't work, for those that are interested:

There could be another aimpler reason.

i, for instance, would rate immoral to swear on a book that considers righteous to give your daughters to a rapist mob, so that my guests are left alone. Among many other immoral things that book promotes.

@Neuropteron if you are interested in truthfulness, the non-religiousity of Neil Armstrong is a more reasonable explanation for why he refused to swear on a bible he didn't believe in.

In my opinion
IMAGINE a creationist actually questioning THEIR sources for once....

Then, blindly accepting nonsense is the intellectual calling card of the creationist conspiracy monger, isn't it?

At least she didn't plagiarize this time.

A shame that you scampered off from your earlier failed ventures on this science forum. I provided you some resources and found your plagiarism source. I suspect that is why?
