Do Atheists "Proselytize"?

References to god on money and in the pledge are more recent occurences coming out of religious fanatacism of the time. Our founding fathers would not like what they see today as far as the overt god belief publicly espoused by politicians, and societal icons.

It's easily fixed. I often cross off "God" on my money, & neatly print "Satan" over it.
So if you see this on a Franklin, please mail it back to me. (I'll pay for postage.)

Notice that in the Declaration of Independence, the terms used are 'Nature's God' and 'Creator'.

(Jefferson often used terms consistent with traditional Deism);)

Nowhere in the founding Documents will you find the words Trinity, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Abraham's God, Yahweh, YHWH, Jehovah, Messiah, Emmanuel, etc...

Do you consider Deism as a religion?

There is a difference between claiming and praticing. Our founding fathers were private in their practice of religion. Our current polticians mostly wear their religion like an armband.

I wonder how you can be so sure on what were the exact desires of the founding fathers - or, for that matter, that they can't be improved upon after more than two centuries.

Above all, I wonder why you choose to decide (arbitrarily, as far as I can tell) that the mistake is to avoid references to God as opposed to removing them. After all, they are a relic from a time when Christianity was seem as a sort of equal-rights partner of the State, and therefore were never quite respectful of the separation of Church and State. In and of itself, those references are favoring God-oriented faiths (and faiths that don't often call their deities "God") over others, which would be bad enough, as well as official promotion of belief in God, which is worse.

Sorry to say it, but the "realms of fanatical extremism" are not on the side of the fence that you want them to be. It IS possible to improve over the founding father's historical reality. After all, they had slaves, no female vote, and no ethnic integration.

Our nation was built on the concepts of government that were crafted by our founding fathers and it remained strong, that is until the growing number of disgruntled among us started to try to change things under the guise, (as you so eloquently put it) of improving things. Thanks to those who think as you our strength as a nation and global reputation is swirling down the toilet. Thanks for that but I get the feeling that you and yours will probably cite the Ten Commandments as the culprit if you can even recognize the swift deteriation I speak of.

Hey, we made some good improvements. It was once illegal for us atheists to testify in court, & they did away with the requirement
to swear a religious oath. I hope you're OK with these.

Personally, I think we're "swirling down..." cuz we're abandoning liberty & personal responsibility in favor of security & largess. We
don't need religion....we need rugged individualism & respect for constitutional liberties.
