Do Frubals = Popularity?

I give frubals for post I strongly agree with, make me laugh, or because someone will ask.

Can anyone else see who sent them frubals in thier user CP?

It's a Supporter feature (although Mods and higher can see it in theirs too).

It's all a bit of fun really...while I don't take it too seriously, it's nice to see the number go up, and to look in my UserCP to see who & why. I like knowing I made Sunstone inhale his cocoa because I said something funny. :p These little things brighten my day.

I have in the past been quite stingy with frubals myself, only giving them when I thought they were really, really merited. But I give a lot more these days (I discovered it's more fun to give than to be stingy ;) ) - to people I know, people I don't know, people I like, and people I don't like. If the post strikes a chord with me, I'll frubal it. I almost always frubal when a post gives me a good laugh, too...unless that person has been too funny and I have to spread it around more before I can frubal them again. :bonk:

I know for a fact that there are many who dislike me and would LOVE to see me leave. Still, the Frubals accumulate in spite of being unpopular with a few.

I was happy when they removed the ability to take frubals away. There were some hurt feelings over them.

Make up your mind...is it "many" or "a few"? :p I dunno who you think would like to see the arse end of you, but I'm not one of them.

Yeah, I have to agree with that one. I only gave someone negative frubals once (and I felt at the time he deserved it - he turned out to be a troll anyway), but it wasn't a feature that could stay without the whole system disintegrating.

Frubals are better than making a post that says High Five!
Sometimes people even return frubals for giving them, so I like the whole High Five description.

Also, on a side note. Popularity? What? LOL... is any forumer popular on the net? Been BBing since b4 the net, people get there 15 minutes of net fame here and there, but never see anyone thats a legendary forumer. Usually its something else that makes them popular. I dunno how frubals can even relate to popularity.

Pete, I totally agree. :)
I give alot more then I recieve, like you also stated in another thread. And I give to people that I don't always agree with. Right now I'm out. Pardus, who we have had our disagreements in the past, made an excellent post, but I'm out. In 2 hours I'll have more to give, and He'll be the 1st to recieve.

I pass out lots of frubals to people who are not yet the best known members of the Forum. I figure that the quality of their posts, and the effort they put into them, deserves recognition.

I do welcome frubals to get someone going, and then to those posts that I enjoy or touch me in some way....laugh, think, cry...whatever.

I frubal posts that I agree with, that make me smile, that makes me think in a new way... etc. I enjoy fruballing, it makes me feel good to get them, so I'm sure that someone else must feel the same, and that also makes me feel good. I like brightening up someone's day :)

What is your view? Do you think that the number of frubals that you have accumulated are directly proportional to how much people like you or how popular you are on the forum?
I don't think so. Lots of folks 'frubal' my posts, but I hardly even get mentioned on the popularity polls.

It is more likely, considering the steep ramp up, that a large frubal pool is indicative of being on good terms with others who have a large frubal pool.

Getting 100 people with 10 frubals to frubal you will not give you anything like the amount that a single frubal from Sunstone will :). In fact I reckon there is a conspiracy to monopolise frubals between Sunstone and Buttercup by fruballing each other continuously ;).

There is also probably a higher correlation between number of posts and number of frubals than there is with number of friends.

It's funny cause it took me MONTHS to even get to 10K's worth of frubals, but I never really paid attention to it at first and then I thought, "Oh this is cool", I rememeber posting and seeing these bright green/orange things on the posts and just ignored them till finally I clicked on the line right there and was like"karma?" okay whatever.:D I enjoy giving frubals to people...and I give them to those who make me laugh, make good points, and friendliness.
As for frubals equaling popularity, where in the heck did all this popularity stuff come from? It seems as though it all started because of the"who likes who thread" and frankly, I'm stunned that this word would even exist on a message board.:p But I don't think frubals equal popularity, they are just ways of letting the poster know they are appreciated for whatever the post does to impress them.

That's true. It can help to remember, too, that we're dealing with 'frubal inflation'. When RF began, very few members would've been capable of having their 'frubal hits' surpass 10 or so, since the amount you can give is based on factors like ones own posting count and time here. Some of us old folk can recall when we thought the world was gonna end if someone surpassed 10000 frubals! *takes out cane and looks for someone to whap with it*

"Cedar Rapids, Iowa." I've actually moved, since then, to a place about 30 minutes away. It's kind of in the north eastern section of the state.
