Caution:
Ya gotta be absolutely certain that
you don't spring traps on yerself.
(I don't trust myself that much.)

Ours seemed to.

3 masked men got into our home at 3am earlier this week.
My wife interrupted them and asked them to 'leave, please' in a fairly firm manner. And they did.

It might have worked out better for all involved that she sprung them rather than me. I would have been likely to escalate things, and unlikely to win.

For any thinking 'Wait...haven't you mentioned having a dog? What did he do?'

He slept. He did manage to rouse himself enough to bark merry hell at the police when they arrived though.
But you live in a country that does not have an insane fettish about guns.

Put a gun in their hands and see how polite they'd be.

The perps could've had guns.
And we know they use guns in crimes
from the documentary, "Mr Inbetween".
Caution: Grisly violence...

Like I said, Aussies don't have the insane gun fettish that we have here. They have reasonable gun control laws and far, far fewer guns per citizen. They also have far, far fewer of their citizens being shot.

We actually don't know if they were armed, but they didn't brandish any weapons.
It seems unlikely they were carrying guns. I'd say there is a decent chance one or more had knives or something. Who knows?

In our part of the world, at least, the breaking and entering of an occupied home is seen as a significant escalation, and has ensured actual police attention and interest. If they were brandishing guns, it might have ended up on Crime Stoppers.

My OP was slightly tongue in cheek. My wife did indeed firmly ask them to 'leave, please', which mostly comes down to her de-escalation training. And they did run, likely presuming the police were on the way and they were after disposable goods, nothing more. Were they drug affected desperados, or stupid boys playing at being tough, it could have gotten very ugly, very quickly.

I've seen enough real violence to know how quick situations turn, for sure.

Locks are all done now. It was just the one night with the old locks, so I'm back sleeping in my own bed.

And brave is one thing...she was also smart and calm in a high pressure situation, which is even rarer, imho.
That smart and calm thing may have been the winning combo. Being calm in the face of the situation may have thrown them off and made them less brave.
