Do honest politicians exist?

Could an honest person enter politics and have any chance against the wretched hive of scum and villainy that awaits them?
It's very unlikely that they could get elected to any position of significance. The 'big money boys' will see to it that that every candidate will either serve their interests, or will lose to someone that will.

Do you think its possible?
Of course it’s possible.
Unfortunately it’s extremely improbable that they would be successful at it beyond a community level.

Once it becomes a profession, the necessity to raise enough money to successfully convince enough voters to make a successful campaign requires a certain amount of sacrifice of ideals to those whose money is necessary and those whose votes are required to be elected.

Which is why beyond the community level every election becomes a choice of the lesser of evils for the voters.

CSPAN is dead. Long live CSPAN.

...Maybe humans just aren't capable of governing themselves effectively.
Let not your heart be troubled. Good people must learn how to lie if they can and if they have the intelligence. It is a part of life.
Its people we trust, not words. It is actions. We also study a person to know what their concerns are: what they really care about, what they fear, what motivates them.

Anyone with verbal and emotional intelligence is able to lie, which is always going to make them more tempted to lie than other people are. Despite this life goes on, and the world improves. Ok: stupid people can lie to, but lies are not our doom.

A courtroom is full of people with high emotional and verbal intelligence. They are all natural liars, yet they choose to support consistent process. It is a ship full of liars, but truth is the ship. They know this and will toss anyone that tries to sink the ship. Eventually. The person is eventually keel-hauled or pushed off of a plank.

The politician is in charge of making good policies. This is what they are entrusted with. It is not their words we can trust. It is other things. The trouble is knowing what they truly care about. A politician who fights to remain in their position may nevertheless care about good policies.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Only honest politicians are those loyal toward their immensely beloved special interests good ole' boys who pay unfathomably huge loads and wads of money, backing their election campaign is where the honesty lay in returning extravagant favors and benefits to their benefactors and benefactors alone.

I think any politician who is honest will stop being honest the moment he or she gets any power

That's what power does to people, power corrupts

And the aim of politics is to get power, as much power as possible for as long as possible

Which one?
Going all the way back to the founding of our union there has been lying, struggling, vicious posturing in a battle of more-perfect-union versus evil. Pick any thousand in Congress, and you will find some good eggs making evil very difficult if not impossible.
