Do Lutherans Believe in Repentance?

I used to go to a Baptist church when I was really young, I don't remember if they had those small repenting rooms or not, it was so long ago. They recently sold the church and turned it into an exercising place... which is stupid because half of the people in this small town WERE Baptists and that was the only Baptist church in the entire town. What? Do they expect Baptists to just become Lutheran all of the sudden? Plus, it's 8 bucks to work out for a day, and most people that live in this town is either too busy or (in no offence of course) too old to work out or shoot basketballs.

Anyways, it just stressed me out because, while I'm not a Christian anymore, that was the only religious organization that I REALLY belonged to, and now it's gone.

When it was brought up the other night at our easter dinner, my sister talked about how she always went to church with my mom, my grandma, and I, and now none of us go. I'm thinking about start going to church for two things;

1. Moral strength. Even though I don't believe in God, it will still kinda make me think twice about every action I do, that God will ask me why I did it and better make sure there's a good answer.

2. For my sister. Most importantly, my sister might really want to go to church, but doesn't want to go alone, especially now because she's a Baptist and all of the Lutherans in the town pretty much were asocial elderly folks so it's probably the same.

I'd prefer there to be repentance involved, because if I'm going there to exercise my moral strength, I'm definitely going to need repentance, I've been a horrible person lately and hope to make better of that.

So, as far as you know, do Lutherans repent?

PS: No, I'm not going to make a scene at the church or judge them in my thoughts, I really am looking for more moral strength, if you still are annoyed by the fact an atheist wants to go to church, then you can say so, please don't be a jerk about it.

Yes, Lutherans teach repentance.

If you consider yourself an atheist, perhaps a church where it is non-creedal might be better.

The Unitarian Universalist religion is non-Christian and non-creedal, and you may feel more at home. Or if you live in a very Christian town or city, maybe something like the UCC (United Church of Christ), Quakers, or United Methodists might be something more of interest.

Lutherans are quite ritualistic Christians, but yes, just like all Christians, they teach repentance, and renewing our thoughts and minds from the sins of our misbehaviours and intolerances towards our bio-ecological family!

So everyone in town is Baptist and the church was sold?

How does that work out?
The monies to keep the building there should have existed no?

I take it that the building was just that.... like any building, and wasn't specifically built to be a church?

Never the less.... how did the space just dry up/get taken out from under people?

Re: Lutherans- Yes.

I've heard the UCC called 'Unitarian Choosing Christ' before....
Some good UU friends got tired of the Christian hating rhetoric at their UU church.
(Which I thought was deplorable.... open to all.... except the Christians. I get that people have injured pasts... but still. :()

Quakers/Friends would be the most liberal/non-creedal choice, provided you aren't in an Evangelical Friends Meeting... then you won't be able to tell the difference btwn that an Mainstream Protestantism. But still might be a solid choice.

I grew up in a UMC.... didn't exactly find it liberal in any way.
But it was useful in linking my past and the history, with my present affiliation in the Anglican church.

I would love to, but I'd have to wait until I get my own house where I'd live closer to one, there is only a Lutheran church in my town as of now.

Re: Lutherans- Yes.

Not everyone, but most of them I'm sure.

I don't think many people were going to church there anymore anyway. That's the only idea I have for why it'd go.

BTW, I was too lazy to start, my sister was gone anyways, I probably will just not go

Meh. Laziness gets the best of us. Plus, I`m sure you have a lot of better and funner stuff to do as well, lol.

Those stuffy old Lutherans! (no offense to any! ;) )
