No matter how charming Toby Keith is, he can't sweet talk me into believing he knows jack about what is or isn't the American Way. Of course, I grew up in America long before it became popular to put jackboots on while discussing international relations. I figure Rush Limbaugh, the druggie, was the first to popularize that attitude in recent years.

I think anyone outside of America could justifiably have a problem with Americans who urge America to "put a boot in their a** cos it's the American Way." At the very least, they might think it's a wee tad bit on the insufferable side of blatant stupidity. But I could be wrong, Matt: After all, the world might find drooling political imbeciles cuddly. You just never know how those foreigners might feel about things like that, you know. Some of them even eat snails, I hear.
And to think, I measure stupidity of a country by their policies, not their entertainers

Well obviously I may be wrong, and it's kind of foolish to make definite statements before I've even been in America once (I haven't). It's just the decisions made by your politicians are often so incredibly stupid, that it has become my belief that the majority of the American population must also be idiots, since they support this government and their decisions. Also the many polls about Americans attitude towards gay people, atheists, etc... don't help my view of them. And of course the many Americans I have argued with on Christian Forums, who often show signs of near-moronic intelligence. A real contrast with this forum :) .

Yes.
gee thanks for not being judgemental........If Americans are so stupid and our politicians are so dumb, why are we the only super power?

It seems like I could cut the envy with a knife in here. :)

I love this one: "They'll miss us when we're gone" and so forth. I might suggest that much of the perceived american "attitude" comes across as bratty teenaged pie-eyed nationalism.

Well put, Mr. Guy. That's precisely how that attitude comes across to me.

To be fair, few americans seem aware (or concerned) of how much of their internal national dialogues seep throughout the rest of the world; some take this as a indication of how little they know or care that there is a "rest of the world".

I've heard there's an historical and cultural reason for America's lack of concern with the rest of the world: As a nation of immigrants, we've traditionally chosen to promote assimilation by encouraging new arrivals to drop their interest in the world outside of America. The first generation doesn't get that message too well, but the second generation tends to embrace it. But whatever the reasons, the fact remains that as a superpower now, it's neither in the interests of Americans themselves, nor in the interests of other peoples, that the American electorate should be so woefully ignorant of the rest of the world.

kevsmicsmi... look at the sunset by the sea, plus we wouldn't have such lovely colors in the sunset, if it wasn't for pollution :D

In your opinion.

From another thread, someone mentioned that he doesn't like being American because our nationality is a sort of "social taboo" in other countries.

He doesn't have to be an American. He can be himself. The title American is just a title for me. Like Mrs. Cardero. Does it have a meaning for me? It's just a name. Should I go around calling my self a FlipJap cause I am half Philippine and Half Japanese. Just because I came to this country doesn't make me an American. Only an American on paper. I am am not even considering that I am a FlipJap. That's only on paper. I am me. I like me better then I am an American or FlipJap. My nationality is Me. Argue this if you will. That's my story and I am sticking to it :bounce

Obviously, there are a lot of people out for American blood right now, but what I'm wondering is do you think that the majority of the world hates us?

There are a mojority that are out for non American blood. There are majority that are out for American blood that are Americans. American, non American blood. Blood is blood. It's red. We all bleed red.

Do they only hate our idiot president and his administration?
maybe...maybe not.

Do you expect to be spit on when you land in another country?
I hope not. I like things sanitized. :)

Here's a story. My sister who looks like she is muslim or arabic, came to visit me from North Carolina. I took her to the airport for her flight. They held her for about an hour and a half to check her backpack and search her. They had to wait for a female officer to arrive to search her. As I observed this, I noticed how the other passengers were not getting their bags searched or getting searched. They just went through the metal detector and off they went to their flight. Get this. The other passengers were not arabic color like my sister. Get the picture? So I don't know what is better. Getting spit on or searching you because they might suspect that you are a terrorist. And this isn't even in another country  .

How do you think most locals would react when they hear your accent?
People in PA think I have an accent. I think people in PA have an accent. I have been in this country too long and I don't have an accent. My sister has a southern accent. I think it's so cute that I try to immitate her. I love foreign accents. French, spanish, Russian, etc. etc. I sometimes wish I could have their accent.

I haven't travelled abroad in a while, so I'm wondering what kinds of experiences other Americans on the forum have had in traveling to other countries lately? For instance, a friend of mine just got back from Japan and says the women ADORE American men. A girl I know in France feels the same. And PLENTY of people still want to immigrate here (legally or not). Clearly not everyone hates us, but what's the general consensus?

Everyone wants to come to this country because its suppose to be the land of the free. But really...you have to work to be free. Free to be able to live.

As I sit here typing. I just realized that maybe it's not hatred that other countries have for us. Maybe it's jelousy. Some are jelous because they can't live like we do. Some think we all live in luxury. Example. My brother who is in the Philippines thinks I am made of money. He asked me to send him $400 one time. I didn't even have that in my checking account. He wanted me to send him Nikes and Rebboks and Expensive Cologne. I don't even buy things like Nikes and Rebboks. His wife told him that since he has a sister in America, his sister should support them so that they don't have to work. I told him that he should have worn protection. His wife even told me how to wire money to a bank. When I told him that I didn't have that amount to send him and that he should get a job, he stopped talking to me.

I love America and would not want to live anywhere else. It strikes me as amusing that some on this forum bash America while failing to site the short comings of their own country. I also find Americans spend less time trashing other countries then they do us. Is there room for improvement? Of course. But why don't people clean up their own yard before trying to clean up ours. ;)

I would like to share this chicken and waffles with you as a token of my friendship.
But as I sit here looking at this picture, I notice that static electricity does not feel pleasant on my lips as I press my face on the computer screen.
