Do societies sometimes "quarentine" the healthy.

Typhoid Mary never believed she was 'sick' because she never showed symptoms. But she still killed at least three people and infected at least 50.

She was isolated (not just quarantined) because she was a threat to others. She died after 30 years of isolation.
and SHE was healthy the whole time she was infecting others....

And that is exactly my point. She wasn't sick, but she carried the disease and was a threat to others because of that. She was forcibly quarantined, even though she wasn't 'sick' and that isolation was completely justified.
Which is also a prime example of a healthy person being isolated, which is in direct conflict with the claim that healthy people were never quarantined until now...

If your not sick, you're healthy. Pretty simple.

The question is one of knowing whether a person is healthy. Healthy people have been quarantined and will continue to be in order to determine if they have a disease. That is one of the main reasons for quarantine.

You can be unhealthy and not sick.

She didn't have the disease???!!!???

Yes, she did. She was asymptomatic. But she definitely had typhoid in her system.

Yes, personal hygiene contributed (as it does with typhoid). And, in our current situation, NOT washing hands and NOT wearing masks contributes. NOT keeping distance contributes.

Anyone NOT wearing a mask when around other people is, in essence, saying that my life is of no value to them--they are willing to kill me for their convenience.

She was not sick of the disease. She was healthy. Maybe they should have centered on her immune system being as such to not be affected by typhoid. How is typhoid spread?

Oh please. People don't wear masks because they don't feel they need to. It's silly.

If you want to live in a protective bubble go ahead. Your immune system will diminish. You will need more 'bubble'. And whatever you do...dont step out of it. Cause every disease on earth is after you.

Correct, but are you willing to carry an app on your phone tracing where you have been in case someone you have come into contact with gets this virus?

Well, if I were to test positive, you're back to the same question. So, what are you saying? Everyone also needs to be traced through their phone so that just in case they test positive they can find all those they come in contact with? Ridiculous.

And how are you going to know? Testing? Quarantine? Guess what. A day after I get the test, or a day after I get out of quarantine, I may have the virus. What now?

She was still a carrier of the disease and infected others by her negligence.

Yes, they are silly, stupid, and a danger to the rest of us. If I could be assured that these idiots would only be harming themselves, I would not be as concerned. But, by their arrogance and stupidity, they put me and my loved ones in danger when there is no need for them to be so. THAT is inexcusable.

Sigh. There is a sense in which the last 100 years of having antibiotics and vaccines have made us forget the dangers of diseases. We have become complacent. We have *lived* in a protective bubble for the last century or so. Well, the bubble has burst. We cannot be complacent about this type of thing any longer.

Before about 100 years ago, epidemics were fairly common. Quarantines of *apparently* healthy people was normal and understood to be necessary for the health of everyone. This debate would have been considered a form of insanity 150 years ago. it would have been obvious to everyone that quarantines were required.

Phones are a convenient method to do the contact tracing. Why not use technology to make the complex process easier?

I know you find my position to be silly, but I see yours as flat-out dangerous and ignoring the actual threat we face currently.

Everyone needs to be tested and tested on a regular basis. And yes, there has to be some way to do effective contact tracing with priority testing for those who have been in contact with a positive case.

That is simply common sense.

If you want to be traced all the time by the government, go ahead. I don't.

No, it's idiocy. You say 'regular basis'. What would that be? Two hours after I had a test, I might have gotten the virus. So, how long? Every other day. Every two weeks. Just think of all that Corona I 'might' be spreading around and killing people.

Go ahead and live in a bubble.

Like I said, if I could be assured that your not living in a bubble wouldn't kill others because of your irresponsibility, then I would have no trouble with it. You would only be putting yourself in danger.

But that isn't the reality.

Well, the answer for you is to get back in that bubble. What are you doing moving around in public anyway with all that Corona out there?

Sigh. If you want to live in a bubble, go ahead. I am not saying you can't.
