Do the Illuminati Still Exist?

It's a question I sometimes ask myself.

But before we press on, what is Illuminism? Originally it was as follows:

"The Illuminati (plural of Latin illuminatus, "enlightened") is a name given to several groups, both real and fictitious. Historically the name refers to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on May 1, 1776 to oppose superstition, prejudice, religious influence over public life, abuses of state power, and to support women's education and gender equality."

Illuminati - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Permanently disbanded in 1785 due to pressure from the rulers of Bavaria and the Catholic Church. Or was it?

Now there have been many rumours and conspiracies about the Illuminati over the years from being a cabal of elite rich people (such as the Rothschilds) guiding earthly events to a secret society working with shape-shifting lizards...etc.

So the discussion is as follows. Do you think the Illuminati still exist and, if so, in what form?

I, personally, believe that it's possible that they still exist. Certainly there seems to be an elite cabal of super-rich who have vested interest in suppressing or promoting events according to their investment interests around the world. But these aren't necessarily 'Illuminati'.

Maybe. It depends if the Illuminatists are supposed to know that they're Illuminatists. On the other hand, if they don't, I'd say it does exist almost unintentionally.

Once you hit vast media, then you are pretty much controlled by the media. The media will run your life when you sign those contracts to become mainstream. They decide how people look at you, they decide what you can or cannot do, and if you're famous enough they will know just about everything privately do.

Not sure if that fits the original meaning of Illuminati, but the modern idea of it seems to match this.

Perhaps I am guilty of being an unintentional Illuminatist. I certainly identify with the core principles of what Bavarian Illuminism stood for.

I secret society would not be readily known or it would not be a secret. Their objectives are still alive, thats not a secret.

The people who have any type of proof wouldn't say anything, that's for sure.

The labels don't really matter.

I don't know a popular conspiracy theory that I would doubt :D. People are definitely too gracious with trust of big brother.

I see nothing wrong with that, although I am not one to fall into that category. The only illuminati we should fear is the one specifically defined today, and I believe that the modern understanding of illuminati is not a group of people who act on those things, but the actions of certain people.

There are a few groups who call themselves Illuminati, sure. Though this is generally to try and attract members rather than remain a secret. But I don't think they're necessarily a bunch of evil old people controlling the whole world. Though, certainly, there are a bunch of evil old people controlling the world.
