Do we as humans have any sort of duty to procreate?
I shall not engage in useless
semantics and ask what you
mean by your use of the term,
"duty", even though someone
else will surely undergo that
route.

In times of underpopulation, yes.
It is whatever duty means to you. The idea and word, like so many others, is up for interpretation as this is a discussion debate.
I think it more moral and ethical to not have children, given the dire over population of humans and all the children who are already born that need a home.
I don't think there is any imminent threat or danger of devastating drop in population that would weaken any of the Western governments. And what of all the children who are already born that need a home? They too are the future, and without a loving and supportive home, their future, as well as ours, is not so bright.Children are the wealth of England! It is our moral duty to insure the welfare of England and the Crown. We do our duty and have children to strengthen England and to show her to be the wealthiest of the nations of man. So dear ladies, I beseech you when your husband comes to your bedstead, do not shirk your wifely duties! But bear his animal urges patiently in honor of England. Dear woman I ask you to come to your senses and do your patriotic duty for the Crown. Close your eyes and think of England!

So the necessity of continuing our species is axiomatic? Not necessarily. Some of us need to have babies so humanity can live on, but it doesn't mean everyone needs to, can, or should.
