I am sorry but preferring and valuing the separateness of a certain group over the whole of humanity is not my thing, it can lead to a certain mentality that I find dangerous such as Us vs. Them, Insider vs Outsider and stuff like that.

But if tribalism is your thing, go knock your socks just try not to murder too many people.

Now you are just being foolish. All groups, by definition, have their own identity or they wouldn't be a "group". Secondly, can you name one group that doesn't have its own rules, formal and/or informal? Thirdly, any Jew can in reality marry a non-Jew, as it is with my own marriage of 47 years, and some branches, such as mine, allow for that.

To accuse us of "tribalism" just because we have some rules is nuts. Nor do we advocate or promote in any way "murder", so you doubled-down on "nuts" above.

A quick example of the nonsense of your "tribalism" charge: when the atrocities occurred in Kosovo over a decade ago, Jewish Federation flew in many families to the U.S. for protection, and my synagogue took care of seven families for a year, all of them Muslem, at the shared expense between us and Jewish Federation.

Now, tell us again how we are guilty of "tribalism" and our supposedly "dangerous "Us versus Them? C'Mon, tell us another story.

Yes^^

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls........
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

Very true. In fact, just this past Sunday I helped a nice young lady become a Jew. One of my most pleasant duties and privileges as a rabbi.

And what was she before she started practicing Judaism? Because if she was a Christian that must mean she is now an apostate and a transgressor, right?

I give up.
We got Liberals. We got Libertarians. Now we got Libertations.
We got Libertines (looks like more fun than the above).

Darn! I'm in dire straits now. There is a rule against misrepresenting other forum members, after all.

Right, those are the type we want in our tribe. Interested in signing on, Cynthia. :D

Then there is a subtext that is not being told. Conversions happen all the time.

OK..... subtext....
He could not become a Jew, nor a Jehovah's Witness, nor a Muslim...... et al.
Think on this........ could you become a Jehovah's Witness, for example?
Well .... could you?

My local JW elder would say 'Yes, Jayhawker could....'
...... but..... could you?
That is the subtext.
