Chanting God's name would be pretty awkward when I don't worship that god. It's also pretty strange to think about worshipers of that god caring about karma since that's a concept from Eastern religions. I guess there are probably syncretic religions that blend worship of this Western monotheist god with belief in reincarnation and karma? Not part of my traditions, at any rate.

The OP appears to be Sikh, which is both Eastern and monotheistic.

ah...
There is a belief that chanting brings about change. "Om Mani Padme Hum" is a popular one. I believe it is recited 108 times, which is why Mala Beads have 108 beads.

I've not read this in the Holy books or anywhere, I just believe chanting God's name saves you and gives you good karma.

Anything that makes you feel something you need to feel is good I suppose. Thus, it could be called good Karma, granted wish and sometimes "filled with the spirit". Happens all over the world, with all kinds of Gods, goddesses, demons and even an enlightened state of mind.

Yes, for theists it is good. It is likely to keep them on the good path. It is like an atheist chanting "I must always be careful of my actions. They may not harm anyone". Keeping a good goal in mind helps.

No. chanting God's name doesn't gives you good karma.
Actually, the science behind chanting God's name is -- it is a mind's strength building exercise -- to bear the effect/result of bad karma's/deeds -- If to come in future.

For example: like people do some routine exercises before going on certain expeditions. The power -- the strength -- the muscles they attain, will help them bearing circumstances that may arise in that expedition.

Similarly, life is an expedition, bad circumstances may happen. And by chanting God's name one attain's mind strength/muscles to bear them easily. :)

Another interesting thing is that chanting God's name without emotions is just like.. gargling the mouth with whisky. Whisky doesn't effect until taken in. :)

To the degree that is helps to re-orient one's thoughts to a more positive, hopeful, and effective mindset, it would logically invite "good karma" into one's experience of life.

This is as good a belief as any among the fare that religion has to offer. Just as correct also. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

Jesus rebukes this claim repeatedly.
Matthew 7:21
Matthew 25:11
Luke 6:46
???

Even the Bible is very clear on the power of the name, which can save you:
Luke 10:17: The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”
Romans 10:13: For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Acts 4:30: While you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
Acts 2:38: And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Jeremiah 10:6: There is none like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is great in might.
Acts 3:6: But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”

I could go on "forever", but this should be enough, to prove that Jesus fully agrees with what is said about the Name in the OP

Bhagavad Gita tells us something like, if you offer your act to God it becomes free of karma (thought/feeling, word, act should be one)

Karma = Good karma's
Vikarma = Bad karma's
Akarma = Free of karma's

Chanting God's name = Akarma.
Chanting God's name is neither karma, nor vikarma (Neither good, nor bad)

Of course, chanting God's name make one karma free (Akarma), or in other words it strengthens one to bear the impact of both (Good & Bad) karma's, or say.. in "Bhakti" the impact of karma's -- falls on God. This is all the one and same thing with NO differences in practical.

But, OP is asking for changing of bad-karma's -to- good-karma's NOT karma-free.

Title asks: Do you believe chanting Gods name is instant good karma?

IF you think/say "I am chanting the Name of God"
THEN with "I" thought and "am" identification there is ego

So "I am ego chanting God's Name only becomes instant good karma", but

IF there is chanting without the ego thought of "I" and identification of "am doing"
THEN without "I am" ego identification it is karma free. Not many manage this though:D
