Do you have a tattoo?

I don't think I ever posted this one! But I got it quite some time ago.

And this one isn't mine, but I did draw the line art for it. :)

She had come in picking a set of fittings for their appearance, but decided on something else when she found out that when taken all together, her choices would've meant something like "cowardice in the face of danger".

Heh! The other day I was at a Chinese restaurant, and our waiter asked me why it said "Landa" on my arm. I blanched a bit and said "Um, noo, NANDA." And he replied "Spelled wrong." I nearly had a heart attack, but then he looked again and said "Oh, wait, no, you're right, that's Nanda."

Yeesh.... :faint:

I've been considering getting a tattoo for some time...so far my possibilities are a unicorn, an eye, or a stylized version of the chemical ATP (used to store energy in plants and animals). Whichever way I go, it'll be smallish and go somewhere that's visible in a bathing suit but not visible in shorts and a tank top. I want to be able to work at places that don't allow visible tattoos and still wear sleeveless shirts. When I pick a design and location, I'm going to wear it in henna/pen ink for a year to make extra sure I want to wear it forever.

My boyfriend has talked about getting the quote "who watches the watchmen" in Latin across his back. I think that would be totes sexy. I'm not sure if he was serious though. (He's been a fan of the comic book for years, we still haven't seen the movie!)

I got it the day after I graduated high school in 2005. :)

I love it but I've been thinking of getting it filled in with lots of brilliant colors. What does everyone else think?

Definately fill it in with colours, Stacey. :D I think that would look really pretty. It looks good already, but I think it would look even better if it had lotsa colours on it. :D

I cannot think of anything I'd want a tattoo of. I like some things, but I just think if I got them tattooed on me, what if I stopped liking them. Then I wouldn't like the pic-cha whats would be stuck on my skin! O_O If I ever thought of something which I would want to be there forever then I might get one though.

My dad got one last year whats was a heart and it said my mom's name on it. My mom didn't want him to get it.

You've gotta be sure that you want it, and what you want. I had no doubt with mine and the ones I may get in the future are already decided.

That's part of the reason I never got one until now when I'm 39. IMHO it's gotta mean something important in your life. If I had gotten one when I was your age it would have been something I would regret now. What was important then is not what is important in my life.

Neat! Can you tell us what you're getting, or is it a secret?

I like the tattoo story in Moby Dick: they land on a tropical island where there's a gigantic whale skeleton. Ishmael measures it and is so astounded by its size that he wants to record the dimensions of the skeleton for posterity. Because they're at sea, he can't be sure that any paper records would get back home safely, so he gets the info tattoed on his arm. :D

I don't have a tattoo, but my girlfriend had three. I don't have any pictures of them, but she'd let me post the descriptions here (we separated on rather good terms - though I doubt I could get pictures).

On her left forearm, she had tattooed a stylized version of the Virgin in black only. On her right upper-arm was a Puerto Rican flag, intertwined with a 51-star US flag. And on her back, covering the entire thing (she showed it to our entire history class on a bet, though part of it was obscured by her...garments), is a cross, stylized in a Catholic fashion, which has written in Latin, around it

Credo in unum Deum, Patrem Omnipotentem, Et in unum Dominum, Iesum Christum, Et in Spiritum Sanctum, Dominum et Vivificantem

Which is a shortened version of the Nicene Creed, translating:
I believe in one G-d, the Almighty Father, and in one L-rd, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Spirit, L-rd and Giver of Life
