Do you have an inner child?

Not really. I tried that idea for a long time, but I realized I am that child. I still have the same needs, for the most part.

I still need things to do. Things to think about, and things with which to entertain myself. A good book to read. A purpose. A gold star when I do a good job. To feel relevant.

I don't always get those needs met now, and I didn't then. I'm okay with it now, and I recognize its part of the cycles of life. The me then, and the me now are essentially the same. Trappings have changed. The things that interest me have cycled. Personality strengths and weaknesses have ebbed and flowed. Life lessons have been learned, but what is in me now was always in me.

Absolutely. I touch the heart of that child whenever I get to sketch dragons and dinosaurs or be really messy with paints or play a fun video game, or play some tabletop rpgs, or just meditate on the contrast between childhood expectations of adulthood, and finding what will feeds that childhood joy productively.

I don't always see eye to eye with Mr C.S. Lewis, but I definitely resonate with this one:
'When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.'

Yeah, I have. And he is such help, such fun.
Explaining like Sun rise said, its penchant is to open up any machine and then not be able to assemble it back. But he is just a child, what can you say to him? My wife knows and stops him any time he is with his pranks.

I don't think I do, but I didn't get to have much of a childhood.

Neither have I had much of a childhood for a good chunk of my teen life. It's said that the "child" in us that did not (or did) experience the childhood is hurt in some way. When we are adults, we shove that inner child in a hole (to put in stronger words), and child work-when one is ready or needs to-attempts to find that "hurt" child, and bring back and cure what he or she has not experienced or has been distorted from their child upbringing et cetera. It's meant to help people see things in light of their own identity rather than replay or relive the hurtful things they've experienced as normal in their past.
