Do you know what "the abomination of desolation" is?

In Matthew 24:15 Jesus said in reference to his second coming:

"When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, ie in the church, (whoso readeth, let him understand)"

Do any of you know what that abomination is that's occurring in the Evangelical and Pentacostal churches today?

I think the "abomination of desolation" is actually talking about how pagan statues were placed in the Temple in Jerusalem before its destruction in 70 AD, not some conspiracy about how the <insert distrusted Christian denomination here> Church is actually the Anti-Christ/Whore of Babylon/etc, etc..

Here is how the abomination of desolation is spoken of by Daniel the prophet.

Dan. 11:31 "And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate."

Dan. 12:11 "And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days...."

So, according to those two scriptures, the daily sacrifice is taken away first, and 3 and a half to 4 years later the abomination of desolation is put in place.

Anybody know what "the daily sacrifice" is?

And does anybody know who "they" are in verse 31?

Hi hollyfaye!
The “Holy Place” is not the Church, nor any denomination. It is the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The “Abomination of Desolation” is actually comprised of 2 things:
1. the daily sacrifice is taken away (the Altar of God is shut down), and
2. an image of some kind will be erected somewhere on the Temple Mount.
A study on what Antiochus Epiphanes IV did will prepare you for what the soon-coming “Antichrist” will do.

Actually, no. Study it closer.... "And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days...." This verse says that the 2 events will happen on the same day and that from this day the countdown is 3 ½ yrs.
However, a much more detailed study of this verse with Dan 12:12, Rev 11:3 & Rev 12:6 and other verses that speak of this time frame shows that these 2 events (the shutting down of the Altar and the Image going up) occurs exactly 30 days apart. Whether its the same day or 30 days apart, only time will tell. But the Tribulation begins when that image is placed on the Temple Mount.

We can discuss this in greater detail if you wish, but since there’s so much info to go over I didn’t want to waste the time if you’re not going to read it.

Anybody know what "the daily sacrifice" is?
Of the 13 different categories of sacrifices (offerings,) the daily sacrifice falls under the broad 'Whole Burned Offering' category. (See Lev 1 and Lev 6:8-15 for general info.) It consists of an evening and a morning lamb that is placed on the Altar in its entirety to the Lord, and it brings a "sweet savor" to His nostrils. The evening lamb is the very last offering made at the end of each day, while the morning lamb is the very first offering of the day. If any of these lambs are withheld from the Lord, then that Altar is defiled and no longer acceptable to the Lord.

And does anybody know who "they" are in verse 31?
“They” refers to anyone who stands against the Altar of the Lord and/or the offerings being made to Him. Since Antiochus IV defiled the Altar with swine, it wouldn't be a surprise to see that happen again.

Hi hollyfaye!
The “Holy Place” is not the Church, nor any denomination. It is the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

Matt.24:15 (Jesus speaking about his second coming) "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, whoso readeth let him understand."

John, I can assure you that Jesus would not have called the Dome of the Rock "the holy place", nor would he have called a Jewish Temple "the holy place". He would have called the Church "the holy place".

The “Abomination of Desolation” is actually comprised of 2 things:
1. the daily sacrifice is taken away (the Altar of God is shut down), and
2. an image of some kind will be erected somewhere on the Temple Mount.

Jesus and Daniel were not speaking about the events which took place in ancient Israel, they were speaking about the end times; the time just prior to Christ's second coming; the time in which we're living TODAY.

I have in fact studied it closer. The verse clearly states,
"And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days", which is another way of saying,

"There shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days between the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up.

These scriptures aren't talking about ancient Israel and the sacrificing of animals, it's talking about the time of the end, ie the present time.

That is what's called "speculation". It is speculation which creates man-made doctrines.

The "abomination of desolation" spoken of in the scriptures, is that of black/white interracial marriage.

Jesus said in reference to his second coming:

"When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, ie interracial marriage, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place (in the church)....."

Daniel 11:31
"And the laws shall stand on the part of the black man, and the white Americans shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily school prayer, and they shall put in place interracial marriage that makes desolate the white race."

And there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days between the time that the daily school prayer is taken away, and interracial marriage set up." (Dan.12:11)

The abomination of desolation is when the Islamic man of sin and all his hordes invade and take the city of East Jerusalem and make it Islams world capital. From there in the Dome of the Rock or Al'aqsa mosque the man of sin will authenticate himself and encourage Muslim's to commit the abominations of the earth (terrorism) worldwide in their efforts to convert the planet to Islam.
The whore of Babylon "sits upon" the seven headed and ten horned beast. The word "sit upon" means to occupy. This means that Babylon the Great (Islam) who gave birth to the Harlot (it's jihadist sects esp. Shia Islam) will occupy or be the dominate religion of this seven headed ten nation empire.

Rome and the U.S. will have nothing to do with end-time prophecy since there's not one verse of prophecy that implicates Rome in any way.

Jerome in his commentary on Matthew says: "So when you see the standing in the holy place the abomination that causes desolation: or to the statue of the mounted Hadrian, which stands to this very day on the site of the Holy of Holies."

This statue was erected after Bar Kochba's rebellion was defeated in 135 AD. This makes me wonder if the synoptic gospels were written after 135 AD. Prior to this event there were no statues erected on the temple mount. Caligula wanted to put up a statue of himself on the temple mount but it never came about, a war nearly erupted over this issue and Caligula died shortly after.

the roman insignia ( i think thats what the flag was called) was carried into the temple

That flag represented the Roman rulership and when they stood the flag inside the temple, it would have been a disgusting sight to the jews for it represented a pagan entity.

This kind of racial ideology has no place in the Christian faith.

You're right and I think it is completely outside the teaching of the scriptures, has nothing to do with "the abomination of desolation", and is contrary to the revealed truth that all humans are of one blood and race; the human race descended from Adam and Eve.

That is what's called "speculation". It is speculation which creates man-made doctrines.

What John 5 said was in accord with scripture and accurate. I may disagree about when the tribulation begins, and I don't think Antiochus has anything to do with the abomination of desolation. I don't accept the idea of Daniel's 70th week either.

But the question posed in the OP is a troubling one to me.

Do any of you know what that abomination is that's occurring in the Evangelical and Pentacostal churches today?

It shows that Christians immediately assume that the Church will have something to do with the abomination, the harlot, or Babylon the Great. I blame this kind of thinking on the teachings of prominent bible teachers over the centuries who really don't now how to interpret scripture and adhere to their pre-conceived and prejudiced ideas regardless of the scriptural evidence etc.

It's more difficult for people to 'unlearn' something than it was for them to learn it in the first place.

Ok I will throw my two cents in. My belief is that the abomination that makes desolation IS a sacrifice of sorts, but I think the sacrifice will be the two witnesses the beast makes war with and kills them. These two witnesses are the two begotten faiths of God, Judaism and Christianity. When the influence of these two are temporarily silenced, it paves the way for the takeover of the entire world by the antichrst, since there will be none to oppose him. This will begin the three and one-half year period before the appearance of the true King, Jesus Christ and His saints to subdue the antichrist, the false prophet(the last pope) and the world system they form. And ys, the antichrist mirrors Antiochus Epiphanes told of in the book of Daniel.

In order to understand what the abomination of desolation is, it's important to compare, the 3 versions of the discourse.

Mat 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
Mar 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
Luk 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
Luk 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
Luk 21:22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
The Roman armies are the abomination, with their ensigns, as the symbols of an idolatrous, pagan, unclean power who surrounded the holy city and laid waste to it, leaving it utterly desolate in 70 AD.

the church will have absolutely nothing to do with the anti-christ or the whore of babylon other than be the recipient of it's persecutions and abominations.
