Do you regret studying what you ended up studying?

Do you regret studying what you ended up studying?

When I was doing my degree I did mostly social science and a bit of philosophy and psychology

I chose these as I find them interesting

I now wish I'd have studied maybe computer science or biology

But to be able to do those at university I'd have had to do different subjects at college

When I graduated high school, I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, so I attended community college. Since I didn't know what I wanted to be, I took courses that interested me. After three years, I'd managed to take enough courses that they awarded me an Associate in Science and an Associate in Arts degrees.

By that time, I decided I wanted to be a horticultural scientist and help feed the world, so I enrolled in at a state university. After three semesters, I realized that I wasn't really cut out to be a horticultural scientist, but I did want to write, so I switched to Agricultural Communications (you know, talking to plants and animals...no, seriously, it's journalism with ag science courses instead of liberal arts courses to fill out the degree).

So, after graduating, I was hired as a news reporter for a small newspaper.

At this point in my life, I really don't know what else I would have done...except maybe study harder...

Most universities have access routes that will take a year of studying. I worked with a guy who did a STEM access year. He had never heard of a vector or a complex number. He went on to an electrical engineering degree at a uni with a great department.

Also, you could consider distance learning. I've taken about a dozen courses at the OU and I would highly recommend to anyone.

And no. No regrets at all. Though I ended up in a very different place from where I started.

No, i knew what i wanted and how to get there, the problem was things evolved so quickly i had to keep going back to study what's new.

My degree is from the OU!

Before that I studied at Manchester and Warwick but didn't graduate from either but I got there in the end

Absolutely, but I studied zilch after high school, officially anyhow. Not everyone gets the opportunity and I don't believe anyone under 50 realizes that.

I do.

I started going to uni at 27. I never wanted to go but the social milieu essentially forces everyone to go now as it's the only way to move out of parents' house.

Just want to be a damn housewife, honestly.

What would you study given the chance?
I had wanted to be a residential Architect -- absolutely unheard of in my "world." But I eventually became a renovation surveyor in retail, and loved drawing the existing buildings with dimensions.

I try not to do regret. One makes what one thinks is the right decision at the time. Regarding uni, I took Psychology because it was the most interesting subject to me at the time. It's probably helped me vocationally along the way in my life, but I didn't choose it for any vocational reason.

I was trying to be funny. I guess that one missed the target.

I have absolutely no issue with people being housewives (or husbands). It seems to work fine for plenty folk.
Not sure there's any such thing as a house-husband.

Not in my view ;)

Sex roles, damnit, eh? Modern folk won't have it!
