Do you talk to yourself?

Wow, .Lava this is a beautifull signature you have.

If I adore You out of fear of Hell, burn me in Hell!
If I adore you out of desire for Paradise,
Lock me out of Paradise.
But if I adore you for Yourself alone,
Do not deny to me Your eternal beauty.

Back to the topic, there are constant debates in my mind between two forces, they battle for the control of my third mind(third eye). However the good always prevails, I'm not sure if thats because I want good to win, But these forces do have there own minds.

I not only talk to myself but I aim to be able to do it (silently within my mind) without a break round the clock. Even now, with the stretches of talking to myself getting longer and longer, I am deriving the benefit of a calm and logical mind (logical = to see the connection between things).

yes, i do sometimes. yet i am theist so talking to myself is equal to talking to God.
Language can lead us to the discovery of God within ourselves. When we use language, we use words. The longer our stretches of talking to ourselves, the greater the chance that we would directly connect to the powerhouse within the words - silence. Take any word which already has an association with the divine for us - Jesus, Ram, Allah - whichever, and repeat it non-stop. The pattern would be - word, word, word . . . word, silence, word, silence, word, silence (the gaps between the words) and finally . . . silence. In silence you awaken to the divinity that you really are. Using a single word or group of words (mantra) is the easiest way to divinity. Talking to ourselves through a formal language is a more sophisticated way.

yes, zikir. repeating the name of Allah and its names-not Jesus(PBUH):D not in Islam anyway. it is the greatest pray according to Qur'an. i love it. when i wake up sleepy, i start saying Allah repeatedly. it immediately wakens me.

Do you talk to yourself? and if you do, do you think you're weird?

Yes and yes.

I have conversations in my mind with real people I know. I'll start day dreaming that I'm talking to someone I know about some subject. Then, I'll discover that I'm actually speaking out loud, complete with had motions, etc. If someone sees me do this, such as while driving my car, I must look really weird. But now in the days of hands free phones, I can just pretend I'm on a phone call.

Is that what people mean by talking to themselves? I'm not talking to myself but to someone else who I imagine I'm with. Does anyone else do this and just how weird does this make me?

The important thing is not to try to change the pattern of your thoughts suddenly. If there is an effort, then your mind will be subject to one more fragmentation. It is best to start by introducing the mantra when you've called it a day and are in bed with the lights off. Effect an effortless chanting of the mantra. You will find over a period that the mantra comes into its own and gains a momentum. It would by and by tend to go on even as you continue using your mind in your long habituated way. Eventually, without any conflict you would come to realize that your mantra was able to make your restless mind more and more restful. Let it take its time. There should be no forcing of a change. What the mind no longer requires will drop off - not by ceasing to be, but by the mind having transcended its pettiness. Then you will be in a position to watch your mind and you will know that your mind has always been good to you and it has been trying in so many ways to tell you what life is about. Only, till now you were not there to listen to your mind.

Yes I do this..I imagine what I say to them and what they say back and my response to that and back and forth..Lengthy conversations.I also go back to real conversations I actually had and change what I said and what they said back..

but when Im imagining a conversation?..Its usually when Im going to be with that person and there is some conflict or issue needign to be resolved..

My therapist told me not only is this normal..but its healthy..

LOL! I do this all the time. I am an actor so when someone I know catches me I just say "Oh, I was just practicing my lines".

Thanks. That makes me feel better. I find myself doing this much more since I started on RF. Is there a connection? :)

I wish I did this...it would make conversations I should be prepared for go easier! LoL! For some reason I always tend to wing it at the last moment!:angel2:

My internal conversations tend to be with alternate aspects of myself---theres the Skeptic (who doesnt believe anything, mocks everything), the Naive Believer (who is just a sucker), the Searcher After Enlightenment (who believes its a path that never ends), the Materialist (who thinks its ridiculous to even imagine anything outside the sensory world--after all, you gotta get back to work! thats more important!), and so forth. But I dont identify any of these voices as me, they are just possible ego-forms to adopt or not. :D
