Do you think that Orwell's Big Brother is a bad thing

Even taking for granted that such is the unquestionable truth, which I will not... money is a means to a goal. The goal, for many, is acquiring prestige and power. Why seek the means when you have a stronghold on the goal?

all right. But there's nothing wrong with desiring fame in order to be loved by the people. because fame is gratuitous. You don't get anything monetary in return.

I won't say that Peron was the impersonation of the perfect statesman. He was capable and wise.

My personal opinion is that European statesmen are just revolting human beings compared to Peron. This is the sad but plain truth.

Amigo...é sò a minha opinião pessoal ;)

The Big Brother of the novel was a lie though, an image created to control the populous and prevent them asking questions. It wasn't about the existence of a controlling government, it was about the dishonesty and corruption. It wasn't about economic policy at all but social policy.
Where was the dishonesty and corruption?
Winston was insane, in the context of the society. O'Brien set him straight.

I so differ! The truest corruption is moral, not monetary.

well..the more money rich people get, the less money people in need will get
Money is not inexhaustible. so the most disastrous corruption is the monetary one.

No, I am serious. There are thousands of Peronistas in Latin America.
are they all kidding?:sarcastic

Of course I condemn mind control as Orwell did in the novel. But the freedom of thought has nothing to do with the economic freedom.

You soon may be eligible for promotion within the Chinese "government". :)

You are kidding. Or at the very least, you are claiming lack of knowledge of actual corruption.

No, they are not. It is a shame.

Gawd....... Bulls' dropsicles!

I don't want to be woken early and subjected to forced physical education; with punishments if I don't exercise hard enough. I don't want to be told exactly what to do and think, and I certainly don't want my brats telling tales about my selfish scams, which cause my internment until I see the light and broadcast where I went wrong before they execute me.

Apart from that, I don't mind it....

I recommend Jaron Lanier's "Who Owns the Future". My summary of one of his point is that capitalism is a complex machine that we shouldn't be ashamed to tweak and adjust - like any complex machine. The US added banking regulations in the 1930s that served well for 50 years until some greedy jerks pushed deregulation through congress and started wave after wave of banking calamities.

We don't need Big Brother to keep capitalism adjusted and well balanced.

Well....1984 is one of the most important books of the 20th century Literature.
I think that the author, Orwell, was traumatized by what he saw and experienced in the Soviet Russia. So he wrote a book in order to condemn not only the Communist Totalitarianism, but also the Marxist ideology.

But sometimes a Big Brother is necessary. A Big Brother is not against Capitalism. A Big Brother forces Capitalism to be useful to everyone, not all only to Capitalists.
So the Big Brother prevent rich people from becoming richer and richer. I don't think it's a bad thing

'Brother' is someone you live with.....up close and personal.

In this country, the concept is already too creepy.

It creeps into the life and living you consider private and personal.
AND YES!......your private life can be used against you!

I don't think that a government like that would be interested in what one does in the privacy of their own house.

So...you didn't hear about the cache of phone call info of the general population?
All done in the name of national security.

Yes they can...they can home in on you.

But it's not so much the government as it is the 'other brother'....big business.
Ever notice how pop-up advertising seems to coincide with your searching?

Then there's the 'other-other- brother'.
He really doesn't like the way you live and wants to spyware your life.
Nothing personal.
Just a personal agenda on his part.

Some years ago, there was talk of dropping of the grid.
Many people so sick and tired of the constant barrage of info this way...info that way....info up your ......

I saw a demo performed by a man that for years changed his identity into someone else's at will.
The government chased for years!
Now he spends his time showing off how he used to do it.

You whisper your s.s. number in his ear and he can bring unto the screen YOU!
ALL OF YOU!

Of course he no longer parlays that info to his personal advantage.
The Feds gave him five years for that.....and he has 'reformed'.

Want to feel as if no one is interested in you?
Not a chance!!!
EVERYONE is interested in you.
Your financial hopes, your spending habits, your criminal record.....etc...etc...

Have you googled your own name?

You may fairly claim (albeit suspect) bona fides in that degree, but knowledge and understanding are two entirely differing things...

I'm gonna guess that you don't keep current events in your "to do" folder of importance...
