Some people use the ignore function, while others don't. Some have previously used it but no longer do, some have previously avoided it but now use it, some have always used it, and some have never used it.

Which group are you in?

I didn't (couldn't) use it when I was on staff, but since then, I use it quite a bit.

I'm on here for fun and nobody's entitled to my attention. If someone meets all three three criteria, onto ignore they go:

  1. I feel like I won't get anything useful or worthwhile from them.
  2. I find them annoying.
  3. I can follow the threads I read without their posts.

Never used it. I have a bit of an ideological objection to it.

I do often decide to gloss over or entirely ignore certain post, posters or whole threads for various reasons, mainly because I see that as unavoidable and a natural extension of simply deciding to read some threads and posts arbitrarily.

But using an actual ignore feature strikes me as largely counterproductive except perhaps in the very short term. There are far too many people and groups that I can't reasonably expect to think better of what they say and believe without some form of challenge, and some of those have become dangerous to society at large in part because they have convinced themselves despite all reason and evidence.

For some of the same reasons I don't really approve of DIRs either, particularly when they are very specific and there is no mechanism for exceptions of any kind. It is unhealthy to encourage incestuous thinking in this world of so many people and so much willingness for denial and delusion.

I tried it once, but it turns out that the ignored individual still exists within our space-time continuum.

It takes quite a bit to induce me to use it. Some people and the threads they create I just skip over. But if someone repeatedly posts highly and aggressively and especially prejudicial material and does it in thread after thread, I appreciate being able to ignore the person in spite of the disruption to the flow of conversation.

I've dabbled with it, but only recently tried to use it for some individuals. But given that I'm staff, I feel like I must endure and not use it.

I am aware of the scroll function, but unlike @SalixIncendium I am sometimes unable to use it.

Given a bunny's anatomy, I suggest hopping from post to post instead of scrolling. For walls of text, you can use a pogo stick.

I ignore the <ignore> feature.
I understand that many use it to avoid
bickering that annoys without benefit.
This can be very good for mental health.

But I observe others who still bicker with
ignored posters, doing so with 3rd person
commentary based on inferences from
other posters. This is cowardice.

I'm here for fun so I used it occasionally when i came across real reason to use it because a slap across the face was not an option.

I started using more it when i was told by staff to use it. ;-)
And somehow, you still see my posts.
Perhaps mine are just too loud for the feature to work?

I don't use it. I find I can ignore things I want to avoid without it.

I have two basic reasons.

1. It's kind of final. I can't be sure that I will never find anything interesting in a given person's posts.

2. It's frustrating to be ignored. As sometimes used, it's like a person making a short, inappropriate response then turning their back and refusing to respond to anything I say. If you disagree with what I say, tell me. I'll be happy to respond and we can discuss it. If you think I'm an idiot, tell me why you think so. I welcome the opportunity to change if I think you are correct. If you simply don't want to continue discussing something with me, say so. I can accept that.
