Does Anybody Really Enjoy Howard Stern?

Hey!, I like farts !
Comedy in its purist form! Fun for the whole family.:biglaugh:
If we could get Howard here in Canada, I probably would give a listen to on occasion.

Howard's show has never been syndicated here in Hot'Lanta, GA, and from what I've seen on the E! version I gather it's rather saucy. Now that Howard's on Sirius Satellite Radio, I guess anything goes.:D

Personally, I'm not going to go out and buy Sirius because of Howard, but the numbers show that a LOT of people did. Yeah Freedom of Speech and Free Enterprise.:)

people dont listen to howard stern because he is profane, they listen because he presents issues in a way that is natural, and yes profanity is natural. there is also the fact that many people, like me, hate that the government feels the need to protect me from hearing/seeing things that some view as bad, evil, or decadent whether it be an idea or a word.

if you feel something is vulgar, dont listen to it or watch it, thats why all tv sets and radios have the ability to either change the channel/station or turn them off. there are plenty of us that dont think the government or agencies of the government should control, in any way, profanity, nudity, violence, and other such subjects keeping them from being shown, talked about, seen or heard.

and if you haven't guessed it, i do enjoy listening to howard stern, although im not about to subscribe to satellite radio just to listen to him. i also like the explicit lyrics in music, not gonna suscribe to hear those either. both, howard stern's show, and explicit music are a form of art, and to censor it takes away from its value and meaning. the reason im not gonna subscribe is because i only listen to the radio about 1 hour a week.

on a side note anyone ever seen the jimmy kimmel segments titled 'unneccesary censorship'?
here is a link two segments, quite funny if you ask me.

Howard Stern disgusts me, but as a writer, I am all for free-speech and non-government interference. Like other posters have said, the radio/TV has an "on/off" button.

Now that he's on satellite, Stern has promised to be even more extreme. He's even stated he will air live sex on his show.

If people want to listen to that, go ahead...but stay away from my kids.

That is well put. I am personally apathetic to him but I do have some thoughts on it. As Drekmed brings up he is very naturalistic in his approach. What others call taboo he calls natural human desires. He is also a hedonist. If something brings him pleasure he is quick to advocate the indulgence of such. Hence the cussing and ton of sex talk. From the 10 or less shows I have watched I noticed he is big on honesty. If he thinks you are feeding him BS he moves to the next subject or trys to dig until he hits a nerve that will spill information on the subject.

What I would be more interested in knowing from other posters is who in their circle of friends listens to him and what characteristics those listener's have. In other words is there a pattern? Anybody got any demographics on his listeners?

I know so few people who watch it that I have nothing valuable to offer in the way of theory of his listeners.

the flip side of that coin is that he is an entertainer and he has made money of entertainment, so I dont really buy this honesty argument at all. He's a fake, faking for money's sake and selling sex on the radio just like a pornographer sells it on video, tv, or in magazines.

also, i saw mike wallace (or ed bradley, i cant remember) grill him pretty hard on 60 minutes. the interviewer definitely had him backing up here and there. i don't think howard stern and "honest" belong in the same sentence, personally.

Willie isn't the excessive consumpition of money a form of hedonism in itself? Also, for the pornographers who have been in the business for more than a few years, I would wager that for the most part, they enjoy what they do even if much of that enjoyment is the money they make. Real quick footnote, How on earth you could you confuse Wallace and Bradley? One is little white guy and the other a large black guy.

The two times I've seen his show, it was on E!, I wasn't that impressed. Of course, I could care less for seeing someones breasts, or even hearing about it. However, those who want to watch or listen to it, then go right ahead. More power to you.

i thought about that while writing it. im 90% sure it was wallace interviewing him. im a big 60 minutes fan so I watch it all the time and that episode was so focused on Howard's B.S. that I forget who interviewing that slimy loser.

you guys are right, it is totally an issue of consumer choice. what im saying is that i wish the general public realized he's just the radio version of a smut-peddler.

Perhaps they do and that is a large part of the appeal to Sterns show?

There are advantages to living over here. No Stern, No Regis Philby, No Martha Stewart, No Michael Jackson on TV every other "current events" show. Most importantly: NO SHRUB!!!! *dances the dance of the free* :)

I have never been a big fan of Howie but he does come up with a few funnies every once in a great while. I think the best thing he did was his movie.

I tuned him in a few times while driving. He could be a hoot at times, but I could not stand him at others. I sure would not pay good money to listen to him though.
