Does autism lead to atheism?

and let the poo flinging begin! :D

but seriously, I've noticed most hardlined scientific materialists and empiricists to exhibit many features of autistists/aspergers. Let the debate begin, I'll support the article's position. Anyone care to blast me? ;)

One opinion I have is atheistic-materialism is more common in left-brained logical people as opposed to right-brained creative and artistic types (I know I'm simplifying here). Atheism makes more sense to left-brained and logical types. Science tends to equate spirituality and spiritual experiences more with right-brain thinking.

Also people descended from more northern (challenging) climates are more likely to not believe in spiritual things. If we look at a map of the world showing areas of greater and lesser amounts of atheism you will see the highest percentages are in northern Europe. And this continues with their diaspora in the New World. These are also societies that traditionally placed a high value on left-brain thinking as being intelligent and logical and it was a quality advantageous for survival in harsh seasons.

Aren't there considerable numbers of atheists in Oceania, though? And haven't most European descendants in America become theistic?

They didn't have a tradition of Abrahamic concepts for individuals to accept or reject like the Abrahamic dominated world. So I'm not sure how they fit into this discussion. I was getting at why individuals exposed to the same concepts accept vs. reject belief. That is more in-line with the OP issue.

And haven't most European descendants in America become theistic?

If you're trying to say culture has something to do with it then that is undeniable. However, I'm suggesting a genetic reason also contributes (left-brain dominance).

Does anyone personally know any autistic atheists? The reasoning behind their choosing atheism can be completely different as is with many people.
