Does destiny exist? Can we defy it?

So if you swim against the current, you are defying destiny? Or fulfilling it?

I think the answer would lie in determining why someone would swim against the current. If there is no apparent reason, or the person can't explain their motives for doing what they do (which can often happen), then that would indicate an action outside of conscious human control. It can't really be considered "free will" in the strictest sense, nor does it automatically indicate predestination (although that still could be possible).

But it only becomes destiny after it happens? Before that, it’s just possibilities, right? But when it’s done, it’s determined…

Not how I view free will vs determinism.

There are some events, scenarios and situations etc, that are unavoidable no matter what you do in life to steer away from them.

There are also a range of choices that we can make between here and those events, but we always end up where we were supposed to.
