Does God punish people?

Is it God who chooses who to punish and who not to punish? Does he even punish at all? Are we reaping what we sow, or do we sow and God reaps? If God does punish, is it on a personal level, or is it universal? If a punishment is universal, does that automatically make any punishment the fault of the accused?

Well, it depends on the God that you believe in...Until you have a clear concept of the God you believe in I don't think anyone can simply answer those questions for you (their conception of God might differ from yours; perhaps the God one person believes in does punish and another person might believe in a God who has no active will at all).

outside of religious texts, I personally have seen absolutely nothing to suggest that God punishes anyone or anything. Nor have I seen any credible evidence of such.

The wrath of god is the pouring out of his judgement on the flesh of mankind. He judges based on facts. What man does is collected in a cup, each one contributing what he does to that cup. When the cup is full, it is tilted and the contents thereof is poured onto mankind, and they reap what they sowed into the cup. So therefore mans punishment is brought about by his own hand.

Each getting what he deserves. So therefore do unto others as you would want them to do to you. Because that is what will happen. There is a time to sow and a time to reap. Mankind cannot escape the reaping process. When mankind has filled their cup up, which happens when the time for gathering into the cup the seeds of the works done by mankind, they have moved to the event horizon of black hole, and there is no way to avoid the singularity which follows anymore than we can avoid next thursday.

So therefore what we do on this earth, and who we are determines what we reap. That goes for christians and non-christians alike.

Friend tomspug,
There is no god anywhere who dispenses rewards or punishments.
As you sow, so you reap.
Eastern mystics have realised that one's karma past and present is responsible for any circumstances one finds himself in. One has to bear & grin the situation to be rid of all karmas to be free.
