Faith-confidence in what we hope for (Hebrews 11)
That interpretation fits.

Yes, we know.

Which, unfortunately, has contributed to a history of religious misogyny.

Yes, and?
Interestingly, the Bible says Eve was deceived. Adam was not. She did not believe she would die, and she believed the serpent rather than Adam. Adam partook willingly when Eve approached him. He knew what he was doing. Adam must have loved her very much to willingly die along with her. He put Eve in a higher position than God since he chose to disobey God, knowing the penalty.
1 Timothy 2:13,14: "For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 Also, Adam was not deceived, but the woman was thoroughly deceived and became a transgressor."
After they did so, their eyes were opened in that they became aware of their changed condition. They could then see, or understand, their sinful state.

Jesus in me
I do ... and it's not from any religious text.
"Humanists believe that the origins of our moral capacities lie inside human beings and our evolution as social animals. They believe that, when deciding how to act, we should use reason and empathy, considering the consequences of our actions and the likely impact on other people and animals." - Humanists UK
I believe one only has to view the news to realize that isn't working.

One cannot act immorally when lacks any concept of morality.

You were there for billions of years before you were born. Was it really that bad?

Me too - but I'm not going to let people use that desire to try to bribe me to believe something I otherwise would not.
As far as I am concerned "I" was nowhere before I was born. Call it oblivion if you like. Further, the Bible gives me good reason to believe God offers everlasting life for those who care to recognize the validity of it. But that truly is between each person and God.
  • This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”—John 17:3

IMO, religion has helped me and still does. It's not that I think God is going to grant what I'd like to see but that many of the teachings I want to live up to. Even though I'm Catholic, I find more solace with Buddhist approaches.
