Greetings Willamena. In my view, one who does not believe in God will never know what they are missing. And, also in my view, that would be a lot with tremendous substance, for such belief is additive to life. One important consequence judging from the view of that "ultimate weirdness" experience that Sun writes of is the complete lack of realizing oneness and overcoming estrangement, finitude, and death.

This depends on what God your talking about! :D

There is only one true God, all others are false if examined closely enough. The only God who dared to predict the future hundreds of times and was 100% accurate, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who sent His Son that we may be born again, freely, just because He loves us, this is the one true God.

There are many paths to God. When you are actively seeking to know her, you are traveling an 'easier' path....but, when you don't believe...it just takes you longer to grow and find your way home...kind of a consequence..

Many paths to God, I would agree, ONLY if those paths finaly lead one to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, for He said that HE is the way, the truth, and the life, and no man comes to the Father but through Him. (John 14:6)

I think the consequences are quite real, and anyone who's been on one side of the tracks and moved to the other will tell you so.

When I believed in God I knew I was taken care of no matter what, at least as far as eternity was concerned. I was immortal. No matter how bad things got I always knew there was a heaven waiting for me. I believed that God watched over me and protected me from harm, gave me a sense of invincibility. I had scriptures to answer any of life's, or death's, questions. My whole existence was pretty much laid out for me - Get baptized, go through seminary, go on a mission, college, get married and sealed in the temple, have a bunch of kids, serve many callings, retire, go on another mission or two, then die and go to the spirit world to wait for the ressurection, then go to the Celestial Kingdom to be with God and progress eternally and eventually become a God too.

Obviously it didn't work out that way for me. I have to count on myself, think for myself, and believe in myself. There is no omnipotent being to bail me out. No more praying for miracles. No more bulletproof underwear (Yes I really believed that. I don't know if it was official doctrine, but it was definitely a widespread rumor that garments are bulletproof). Anything I ever want to achieve or become or do or experience has to get done in this life, no second chance. This life isn't so disposable anymore. I can't waist my whole life marching to someone elses tune just so I can be happy in the next. I create my own purpose in life, and I make it happen.

No matter which side of the tracks you jump to it's a life altering experience.

Well Said.......:clap

And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite Daniel 2;44 All manmade goverments will come to there end when Jehovah steps into the affairs of humans, depending on whos side we are on at that time will depend on weather Jehovah thinks we are a rebel and adversary or not ,i am putting my vote in for Jehovah and i am welcoming his sons kingship right now ,then i can be on the right side revelation 7;9-10

Why do you use quotes from a book that cannot be shown to have any basis in fact? Surely such quotes are meaningless unless you can show some evidence they they are 'the word of God'

How exactly did 'he' say that as John's Gospel was written decades after the event?

And if he did say that what evidence do we have that it had any truth in it?

All of us actually know, whether we want to believe it or not that there is a God, for 2 reasons. One. the creation shows us there is a creator, and two, our conscience, meaning, 'with knowledge' shows us right from wrong. Creation and Conscience, if we truthfully examine them, will show us there is indeed a God, a holy, righteous, loving, gracious God, who gave His Son so we may live in His presence forever, freely.

Yea...that depends on what god you believe in.

Not true. That book only shows us that it was a good story. it showed me that your god was weak, not knowing where his creation was, what is doing, why it did it and who told his creation it was naked. It told me that your god needed assistance creating life and because your god was done creating stuff...whuuuu... he needed a rest....your god further showed me that its creation was doomed from the beginning because all of the evil it does not want us to commit is pointless because it was your god that stated that he created evil. Surely he knew his creation would do evil things.

See you got me started.....

See what i mean? this is your OPINION projected upon the ones who stand firm and do not believe in your gods.

Why do you assume that our lives are harder because we are not believers?

At the moment:

30% Consequence
43% No Consequence
10% No Clue.

What would you expect the results of this poll, if administered one hundred years ago to indicate? What about the results from one thousand years ago? And what will the results indicate fifty or one hundred years from now? Does consensus fluctuate over time or does it remain fairly consistent? Is there a trend? Or are the numbers meaningless?

Sorry. The number for "No Clue" should have been 25%. My bad.

Over time the "no consequence" vote should increase. However, this does not change the fact that the possibility that God exists remains open 100% of the time.
